Growing up in a half mage half human family was always interesting. Mom always had something up her sleeve whether it be a prank or a cool magic trick. I honestly thought she should be a magician on stage for years until I was 13.
One night, I could hear a strange noise coming from downstairs. It was a banging noise but soon turned into more. I got up once it continued a few times, slipped on my slippers and headed out my room. Our upstairs layout had an open concept at the bannister to allow you to see into the living room. There wasn't anything at first but suddenly a terrifying figure was hurdling over the couch.
The thing got back up and shook off it's attack, I cowered behind the edge of the wall piece. I was still able to see enough peeking over. This thing was all black, giving off a shadow from its body. The most evil red eyes anyone would say they've seen and sharp, long claws. When it showed its teeth, they too were sharp. The rest of the living room was destroyed and it headed back under the entryway.
There was the sound of a struggle and some punches being made, white light was flashing as well. When I tried to move the figure came back into the living room only this time it was holding my mom by the throat. She burned him with the touch of her hand when light came from it. The thing laid her down on the floor and began biting her. Mom screamed in pain, for a second this thing leaned in, I think it was talking to her. My eyes met mom's as she saw me, she smiled back at me and I did't really know why.
Next thing I knew, Mom's whole body turned to light, it started shooting beams throughout the living room. The creature was stuck as the light blasted through its body. The light was so intense I had to look away and that's when I saw Dad. He was crying but he grabbed onto me and held me tight.
That was the night my mom died. It was also the night I found out mom was a mage.
Dad sat there and explained everything to me, suddenly the magician stuff made a lot more sense. The Halloween issues we'd had and full moons all made for good coverups over the years. This explained why I had weird feelings and why my energy felt off from time to time. In learning about magic I learned that my mom was a white mage, and that magic had passed on to me.
I began studying Magecraft soon afterwords. Every book I could find, then we got a notification from a school called Ankastle that I could be enrolled. They told me that I had missed a few years but that I could still catch up. I stood out in classes excelling quickly over other students. Not only did I catch up but I also graduated early as the youngest mage to graduate in history.
White magic is pure magic, it was fascinating. From small bits of light to protection spells my magic began developing further. I was soon able to produce small bits of life for short periods of time. I would spell my pencil to take my notes for me, or make my bookbag fly itself behind me. This new world was the best thing I had discovered, I just only wished my mom were here to show me.
Dad wanted me to learn more since I still had so many questions and because he was privy to the mage world he knew a guy. Carson Deveroux had worked with Dad on a job and they became good friends. Dad had asked him to teach me more and he agreed. He took me on as a private studies student and taught me all there was for heroics. With this he helped me develop my master spell and soon I got recognized as a master mage.
I spent four years with Carson in which I learned he was known as Summoner and I got my own hero name as Castor. Yes, with an O because it's the British spelling, Im a native. Once the fourth year came around Carson told me I was powerful enough to go off on my own. Soon after this I joined the Warrior Legion and met some pretty cool people.
Now I fight crime with my white magic in remembrance of my mom, even though she died, I know that what she did was to save me and my dad. She's my hero and I hope one day I'll turn out just as great as she was!
