Author believes that the event above was the last time that Perth and Saint made physical contact with each other.
Let me tell you straight away how our story began.
I didn't mean to fall in love with him.
But there he was, looking like no one else ever had a more beautiful face, a more striking pose, a more gorgeous overall look. I was instantly smitten.
I stood in one corner totally mesmerized, paralyzed, and unable to join the rest of our group who went over to where he stood and milled around him.
I do not know for how long I stood where I was until someone tapped my shoulder from behind.
"Hey," said my friend Mark, "aren't you gonna join the others to greet our newest co-worker?"
"No," I said, turning away and walking towards the water cooler. "I better take a small drink of water before our snack break ends."
I pulled out a paper cup from the stack beside the water cooler and pressed the button of the water cooler and waited till my paper cup filled up.
I raised the cup to my lips and drank thirstily, downing the whole content in a few gulps.
As I tossed the emptied paper cup into the bin beside the water cooler, I felt a light tap on my shoulder. I turned around.
My heart started to palpitate erratically.
"I believe you are the only co-worker that I haven't officially met yet," he said to me, extending his hand to me.
I hesitated to take it because my hands had turned cold and clammy.
"The manager pointed you out to me while you were filling your cup with water," he continued to say. "The manager said that I needed to work closely with you on his newest project."
I knew which project he was talking about.
I quickly wiped the palm of my right hand against the back of my shirt and hoped that the action went unnoticed by him. Then I accepted his offer of a handshake.
"My name is Saint," he said as we shook hands. "The manager told me that your name is Perth."
"Yes my name is Perth," I said, hoping that he did not notice just the slightest quiver in my voice. "I know which project you're talking about. I look forward to working closely with you on it."
"The manager warned me that because the project has a tight deadline we might end up doing all nighters and might have to spend nights in a hotel just to make sure that we finish the project on time because the client is one of the biggest corporations in the land and they pay big bucks to get their projects completed."
"I know what you're talking about," I assured Saint. "This is not the first time that we had to work on a project with this corporation."
"Who was the person with whom you worked with on their previous project?" Saint got curious.
"Chimon," I replied. "See that guy who's squinting at his computer screen?"
There was only one guy among us all who gets back to work even before snack break ends and that was Chimon.
Chimon Wachirawit Ruwangwiwat.
