Champ might be intelligent and well read but when it came to relationships he was about as useful as a chocolate teapot so he was grateful that his best friend Kan had found a nice place for him and booked a table for two, he and Liam had sat outside enjoying the sunshine until about 5pm and then he had suggested they head inside to wash up.
The table was booked for 6.30 and the restaurant was about thirty minutes away so they had an hour to get ready. Liam used the bathroom first and Champ had told him to help himself to whatever clothes he wanted from the closet so he chose a pair of tan pants, a white tee shirt and a white short sleeved over shirt, the outfit would go with the sneakers he had worn earlier.
Champ chose brown pants and paired them with a pale lemon tee shirt and caramel over shirt and brown canvas deck shoes and then they set off. Liam sent a text message to Kan informing him of their plans so that they wouldn't wait up but Kan had already supplied Liam with the security code to get into their house.
After a pleasant scenic drive they arrived at the restaurant and walked inside only to be asked to take a seat while their table was being prepared so they went back outside to enjoy the last rays of the sun and Champ took pictures of Liam then within minutes the waitress sought them out to inform them that their table was ready and apologised for the inconvenience.
Walking back inside they were directed to a table for two which was set with a burgundy table cloth and cream place settings. In the centre was a fresh red rose in a bud vase, it all looked very romantic and inviting.
Liam couldn't help but smile at Champ who looked uncomfortable in such an environment much preferring somewhere he could be himself, nevertheless he took the proffered menu from the waitress and when they were ready to order he ordered soup and lasagne and Liam decided to try the melon starter and steamed chicken with jewelled rice pilaf.
They both decided on a low alcohol rosé and when the waitress left they chatted amicably.
"do you ever think about the time we shared back then?" Champ asked Liam.
"very often Champ, is that bad?"
"not at all, I think about it a lot as well" Champ replied.
"I didn't come after you because of that Champ, I felt there was something there and I wanted to know more about you and explore my feelings" Liam said.
"I'm glad you did Liam, I missed you so much, I ..."
"you? ..." Liam prompted him.
"I'm dreading when you go back ..." Champ said finally opening his heart to the handsome young man sitting opposite.
"I have no plans yet Champ, I don't even know what I am going to do so I decided to take a sabbatical whilst thinking about my future" Liam said.
"would you like to ... no that's ..."
"what? would I like to what Champ?"
"would you like to stay with me in my house while you decide?"
"could I discuss it with Kan and Kiri first considering they brought me here, it's only fair but I have to warn you, you could be stuck with me for several months, the business with my agent really did a number on me Champ" Liam asked.
"of course but what were you planning to do when Kan and Kiri leave?" Champ asked.
"I hadn't thought that far ahead to be honest, I just wanted to get here to talk to you first, nothing else mattered at that point" Liam said.
"will you at least stay with me tonight?" Champ asked.
"do you think that's wise? you know what will happen if I do, it's kind of inevitable, I've missed you so much" Liam admitted.
