"Remind me why we have to attend this ball?" Hanna muttered as she shuffled in her dress.

"We were invited by Hansen Larnbech. He's the type of man who expects to see everyone he invites." Sephtis replied as he tilted his chin up. "Just talk to people, you'll be fine."

Hanna puffed out an angry sigh as she walked away from Sephtis to the drinks table. A bowl of red drink sat on the table with a large ladle and fancy cups.

"I do believe you'll find the raspberry champagne to be tasty, if you're wondering what to drink." A voice behind Hanna made her jump slightly. She turned around to see a handsome man with thick, curly gold hair. His eyes were a cold stone grey as he smiled at Hanna.

"Forgive me for startling you. I am Hansen. Hansen Larnbech." He introduced as he bowed down.

"Oh! I was just surprised..but anyways, I'm Hanna Starling. I had no idea I'd be meeting the man who invited me himself!" Hanna replied curtsying back at Hansen.

"Well, then why don't we drink a toast to our meeting?" He suggested grabbing two glasses of what Hanna presumed was the "raspberry champagne" Hansen mentioned earlier. "Because meeting a gorgeous women like you is worth a celebration."

Hanna blushed as she took the cup. After a sip, she resumed talking to Hansen.

Meanwhile, near a table with a gorgeous bouquet of roses in the center stood Sephtis. He looked out over the people of the party silently. Probably due to his rigid nature and cold glare, most people made their way to avoid him. Sephtis didn't mind until he stood still at the sight of Hanna. She was already talking to a man in a dark green suit and it looked like they were getting along well.

Sephtis felt a compressed feeling rise from his chest as he looked away. What Hanna did was none of his concern. She was merely his apprentice and only that. Sephtis was brought back to his senses when a server offered him a glass of wine. He took the glass and sipped out of it. Anything to occupy his mind.

"Sephtis?"

Sephtis turned around and saw an old man standing beside him. A sigh of relief escaped his lips when he saw him.

"Harold. Oh, am I glad to see a familiar face around here." He said shaking hands with his friend.

"I'm surprised your even here, Sephtis! I mean with it being Hansen Larnbach's party." Harold whispered to Sephtis.

Sephtis looked around to see that no one was in close ear shot.

"I think he's starting to suspect us. He invited me on purpose. Tonight is the counsel meeting. If I didn't show up, I think he would have started to suspect me even more." Sephtis muttered cautiously. Harold raised his eyebrows.

"Us? I've told you, I stopped practicing sorcery." Harold replied with a confused look.

"Oh, no, I forgot you don't know. But...I've taken up an apprentice." Sephtis replied gesturing his shoulder to Hanna, instantly wishing he hadn't. By now she was giggling uncontrollably with the man. Her face was flushed a pure red. "That's...that's Hanna. She's usually more sober than that..." he trailed off rolling his eyes. Harold looked at Hanna with wide eyes.

"I see, so she's the lady Hansen had seemed interested in. Since he's talking to her now."

Sephtis nearly spat out his drink as he looked at the man.

"Is that?...oh, how did I not see that before?! She doesn't know about him!" Sephtis hissed out as he hurriedly placed his drink down.

"She doesn't know? Why haven't you told her that he's a hunter?!" Harold replied sharply.

"I didn't think Hansen would talk to her!" Sephtis said looking at Hanna worriedly.

"He has a tendency to be...flirtatious. But if Hanna slips up and says something..." Harold told Sephtis. Sephtis looked at Hanna and thought of a plan.

"It was nice speaking to you, Harold, but I'm afraid it's time for me to go." Sephtis said as he walked toward Hanna. Harold shook his head and watched Sephtis go.

During this Hanna felt the champagne's alcohol start to kick in. Her fingers felt warm and fuzzy as Hansen's face started to shimmer in the thrill of the party.

"So this is the first ball you've ever attended?" Hansen asked Hanna.

"Yes, but it's so much more different than I expected! I thought everyone would be all uptight and strict." She replied giggling. She was giggling a lot more now.

"Well, I'm glad I had to honor of hosting the first ball you've attended." Hansen said as he grabbed Hanna's hand. "Why don't we go to the couches and sit down? Standing here will make you sore after a while."

Hanna nodded and the two of them started to head off. But they were cut off by a familiar voice.

"Hanna?" Sephtis called her name as he strode up to her. In her drunken state, his eyes seemed to glow more vividly and he stood over her like a mountain.

"Oh, Sephtis! So you've decided to socialize?" Hanna joked as Sephtis raised an eyebrow at her.

"Sephtis, you know Hanna? Well you must be very honored to know a lovely lady like her." Hansen said shooting a smirk at Hanna that made her smile. "It's good to see you though, we haven't talked in ages!"

"It has been a long time." Sephtis replied with a straight face. "And yes, Hanna is my new apprentice in blacksmith forgery, so I know her well. But I've just received news that one of my smelters has broken. I'm going to have to go home, along with Hanna."

Hansen frowned at Sephtis.

"Oh what bad luck." Hansen turned to Hanna who had a very disappointed look on her face. "I hope to see you again, Hanna." He leaned over and kissed her lightly on the cheek. He bowed once more to Hanna and then to Sephtis. When he was done, he finally left.

Sephtis felt his whole body burn as he watched him leave. The kiss still burned in his mind when he looked at Hanna. Her face was frowning in a look of confusion.

"What do you mean blacksmith-" Hanna started but was interuppted by Sephtis putting his hand on her shoulder with a tight grip.

"I'm sorry Hanna but I'll explain later. Right now, we have to go."

"But-"

"No buts, just leaving." Sephtis said as he let go. "And besides, I don't want you any more drunk than you are."
