Tick-tock. Tick-tock. Tick-tock. BRRRIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNGGGG!

"Ok class, drop off your tests on my desks on your way out. Don't forget your reading assignment and have a good winter break!"
Mrs. Sheehan said as the class started to pack up and leave.

I took my time, I didn't want to get caught up in traffic. As I started to leave Mrs. Sheehan stopped me.

"Nico, can you stay a few minutes?" She said.
I walked up to her desk and asked what's up. "A county writing fair is coming up soon and I recommended you to represent our school for the short story category. I have enjoyed reading your writing, they always give me goosebumps and chills and the imagery is outstanding. You have a very active imagination and if you pass county then you will go to state and the reward is five thousand dollars. What do you say?" She looked hopeful looking up at me with her brown eyes, little did she know that with just a few sentences I could make those eyes fill with terror.

"I'll see what I can come up with over break and give you my answer then." I said. Then I picked up my bag and left the room.

Those stories would give anyone 'goosebumps and chills' as she put it. They would also give nightmares and terror if they actually lived through it as I have. She may think that I was merely writing fiction, but in reality I was writing about my experience in Tartarus.

Her offer was both ironic and sad. Get paid for writing about the worst experience of your life, share it with the world and let them think that it was just your 'active imagination'. I wish. I wish it was just that.
