Chapter I

It's the 6th of May. Finally.
My hands tremble, as my feet slowly melt into the
ground.

I've been counting down the months, the days. And now, finally, the minutes.

Two minutes until the results are up.

The biggest book competition. The book for which I've spent most of my time on. It's either a winner or...
No.
It's a winner. It must be.
My hands are clenched on my mouse. I keep refreshing the page, looking for my name, feeling the striking light of my laptop slightly hurt my eyes
as they dart from the refresh button, back to the time.
I count down the seconds.
Three, two, one...
I refresh once more.

And there it was, my name. Isabel Jones.
I breathe out a sigh of relief, and throw my head back. A smile spreads on my face, as I let my heartbeat soften. I check the page, my mind searching for another confirmation, letting my eyes glide over my name one last time, before hurrying  to announce everyone. But-
My eyes catch glimpse of another name, next to mine.
Isaac Gray.
I'm taken aback by the name seconding mine, written in the same size, parallel to my own. This made me read the whole page, word for word. And then I read it again.
Because how could there be two winners?
Me and...Isaac Gray?
I let a slight bitterness of jealousy rush through my face, before closing my laptop in a slow manner.

He must've been good...

But I'm better.
