As I sat in that little coffee shop on the corner, I felt a cold breeze come in. I looked up as the bell announcing that a customer had walked in the door chimed. The man was wearing a large, black trench coat. It made sense that he would wear such a thing. Because of the harsh winter weather that we had been having recently in New York City. Everybody, including myself, wore some type of long, heavy coat. The snow at the moment was coming down extremely hard, and the wind was brisk in the night. We had a long while before it would even be remotely warm again. After all it was only late November.

The man came and sat down a few booths behind me. The waiter came and asked him if he wanted anything, but the man waved him off, saying in a cold, hushed voice that he only came in here to get out of the cold for a minute. I payed only little attention to what he was saying. I was caught up sipping my coffee, thinking about what my future had in store for me. I imagined myself on a stage in Hollywood, performing for millions of people, letting the music guide my feet. After I was done dancing they would stand and cheer for me, wanting to see more.

I finished my coffee, still half day dreaming, and called for the waiter and told him to give me my check. I payed the bill, and gave the waiter a $10.00 tip. I had plenty of money, and I knew that he needed the money more than I did. I would probably spend it on a handbag or something else I didn't really need. I passed the gentlemen in the black trench coat, and walked out the door. When I was outside, I pulled my red coat closer to my body, and started to walk home.

After a while of walking, fighting to keep my long, black hair out of my face, I decided to turn around and look to see if anyone was behind me. To my surprise, the man in the black trench coat was about two car lengths behind me. He kept his head down, and the collar of his coat turned up. I walked on a little longer and he still had not turned to go a different direction, so just to see if he was following me, I turned on a side-street. He too turned on the street that I was on, so I decided to pick up the pace, so I could hurry up and get back home. I soon realized that I had made a wrong turn and I was on a narrow street that I wasn't very familiar with.

As I continued walking, the street lights grew farther and farther apart, until the street lamps were so far apart that there was close to 100 feet of darkness in between the lamps. I picked up my pace even more. I wasn't quite running yet, but I was walking way faster than I would when walking normally. The man kept up with me really well, it didn't even look like he was getting tired, unlike me. I still had a good ten minutes until I was home, and I didn't know exactly where I was anymore. I was hoping that I would be close to my house when this street finally ended. I was fast approaching a street lamp, and for that I was happy. I decided that when I got there I would turn around, and if the man was there I would run in the other direction as fast as I could, until I was home.

I got to the street light and turned around and scanned the street for the man. After I didn't see him I turned around and froze in place. There he was, in front of me. He had his coat unbuttoned, so I could see his tight fitting black sweater that wrapped around his muscular chest. He pinned me up against the wall before I could even speak. He created a cage with his arms, with me in the middle of it. I could tell just by looking at him that he was way stronger than I was, and that I wasn't getting out of his grasp until he decided that he didn't have a use for me. The snow was still falling hard, and even with his coat undone, he never did shiver. He just stood there looking at me hungrily with blood red eyes.

He suddenly leaned in close, sniffed my hair, and sighed. His lips barely brushed my scalp when he pulled slightly away.
" You have a very nice smell, " he said in a voice like silk.
I was still frozen with fear. I didn't know what this otherworldly man was going to do to me, but it probably wasn't good. I tried to speak to him, to beg him to let me go. It was as if something was caught in my throat. It took all of my strength to let out one little word.
" ...please....."
His eyes suddenly went wild with need. Whatever he needed was getting the best of him. I knew that he couldn't hold back any longer. Whatever he needed, he needed it now.
" I'm sorry Riley, " he said in a quiet voice as he leaned in close to me.
Wait, how did he know my name? How... And then it happened.

I felt his razor sharp canines rip into the skin on my neck. Warm blood poured out of my wounds, into his mouth. His hands were gripping my shoulders like claws. He was pressed hard up against me, gripping my skin as if his life depended on how hard he held me. As I felt the life pour out of my body, and into his, I felt a sudden excruciating pain throughout my entire body. It was the worse pain I have ever felt in my life. It was as if I was being burnt alive, stabbed, and electrocuted at the exact same time. My body ached, my veins burned, and my skin felt as if someone was slowly cutting me open from the inside-out.

When he was done with me, he threw me in the sewers of the city, where I couldn't be seen. For days after he left me I still felt like I was being slowly torchered by satan himself. It took a while for the burning and stabbing to slowly start to fade away. Until finally I was able to stand up and face what I had become.
