Sometimes I think God plays favorites.
Friends I've known in middle school already have boyfriends while I'm stuck with not having my feelings reciprocated by the guys I like.
After getting indirectly rejected once, I never ever thought of confessing again. I just thought that it would be a waste of time since every guy I ever like just end up not talking to me when they find out that I have feelings for them.
That's why, this time, I won't show it. I'd rather pretend that I don't like him than to have him just suddenly leave me in the dark just like every other guy in the past.
"(Y/n), (Y/n), look at what I got," Itadori says, wrapping an arm around my shoulders. He shows me two keychains, and I just glance at it before shaking him off. "One of them's yours."
"I don't need it." He furrows his brows for a moment, then he takes my hand and forcibly places the crocheted penguin keychain in my palm. "Itadori—"
"It's yours," he says, back walking ahead of me with a huge smile on his face.
I shove the keychain into my pocket and sigh heavily. I continue walking with my hand in my pocket, fumbling with the keychain he gave me. Why the hell would he give me this?
"(Y/n), Itadori!" Nobara calls, waving her hand in the air. I smile and jog up to her, and she chuckles when I hug her tightly. "Still pretending you don't like him?" she whispers into my ear, and I roll my eyes and playfully push her off, making her laugh and smirk at me.
"Where's Megumi?" I ask.
"He got us ice cream—oh, there he is," Nobara says, pointing to her left with her thumb.
I turn to our left, waving my hand when our eyes meet. He waves his hand back, and I meet him halfway to check the plastic bag. I check the ice cream, smiling when I find my favorite vanilla ice cream.
"You know my favorite," I tell him, and he ruffles my hair.
"We're not best friends for nothing, (Y/n)." I smile and get my ice cream, and he takes the bag back, draping his arm around my shoulders. "Get your ice cream." He tosses the bag to Itadori, and the latter eyes us before grabbing his ice cream. "How was the inspection?" he asks me.
"It was okay. The curses are first grades though. It'll be hard for you guys to..." My voice trails off when Megumi rolls his eyes. "You can do it. It's just... I don't want you to get hurt. What will I do if I lose you?" I ask him, and he rolls his eyes again, shaking his head a little.
"Bragging about being a special grade is going to get really tiring to listen to." I frown, and he starts to panic. "It was a joke. It's a joke." I look away, and he ruffles my hair. "It's a joke. Don't be sad."
