[ Far Enough To Leave Our Lives Behind ]

The thing about disappoinment is that no matter how much one try to avoid it, it just happens. No matter who they derived it from.

"It hasn't even been a day!", Jeonghan reasoned out, his tone in between a matter of fact and exasperation.

It wasn't the first time that he had raised his voice on his Dad, but it doesn't happen often as well, and right then, he couldn't have braced himself for the consequences of his actions.

Commonplace for a disappointed son, his Dad slapped him in the face, his head flying swiftly to the side with the impact. And who knew a sting could cost merely a second to break out.

Along with a forefinger pointing at him as if he hadn't knew well, his Dad began to rebuke him. "You have just started to make use of yourself, and now you're rebelling again? You have to learn that it's not always what you want!"

Jeonghan rolled his eyes as he glanced away, containing himself to reach for his cheek. Coming home, he had not hoped that he would get to encounter neither of his parents, and it pained him too much that it had to be his Dad.

He dreaded his Dad to a great extent, along with his same old criticisms. "Why can't you just be like your older brother?"

"Is working for your business not enough? Is having to find my own fiancee not enough? Is leaving this home not enough?", Jeonghan knew that no matter how much effort he puts in to be enough for his own family, he would never be.

"Do you really think you're doing enough?"

"Parents differ with their standards. For some parents, I might be doing enough, and for the rest, I'm not.", He let out a silent breath, collecting the composure that had left him moments ago. "I dread to have that kind of problem, but I guess, I've been accustomed to this."

Then Jeonghan turned away as soon as the last word was said, leaving his Dad standing in the middle of the living room.

It had not matter what his Dad would think or what he would say anymore. Yet then again, in some messed up way, he grew up making himself believe that neither of his parents' words mattered.

We get to choose what matters in our lives, can't we?

Following a long drive that had only worsen his inner resentments through escalating thoughts, Jeonghan had arrived to their rendezvous.

In the company of what just happened with his Dad that had very much unsettled his mind, he knew it was a bad idea to meet up with Raki, yet, something in him was persisting.

The moment when Jeonghan had set foot in the coffee shop that they had once been to together, he saw her sitting at a table by the window, dazing over the city outside.

For a moment, his thoughts decelerated, no words circling in his mind with the voice of his Dad, no predicting of disappointments, and no desire of leaving.

It was as if the time had went still and he got his life all figured out. . all because she came and waited for him.

When he reached her, Jeonghan stood by the table and said, "Sorry for coming late."

Raki averted his gaze from the window, a little taken aback by his sudden presence as if she wasn't expecting him, yet immediately masked it with a pursed smile, and nothing more with a reply.

He took the seat across from her. "And thanks for coming."

She straightened her back from the feeling of slight discomfort. "Took you too soon to figure it out."
