Two Years Ago

The bar is loud with laughter, music, glasses clanking against tables or other glasses, and voices trying to be heard over the music. Glancing around, I see so many different types of people either huddled around tables, dancing with one another, or playing pool at one of the many pool tables throughout the bar.

My friends are dancing with two guys a few feet away from the table I am sitting at, giggling drunkenly every time one of them gets spun around in a circle. I'm usually the third wheel in all of our outings, not because I'm not attractive or unwanted, but because I tend to shy away from any man that tries to talk to me.

Tonight hasn't been any different, except for the man that keeps glancing my way every few minutes. He's tall, black hair that is short on the sides and a little longer on the top, covered in tattoos, somewhat muscular, but not over the top body builder muscular, and most likely the friend of the two guys dancing with my friends, Rebecca and Jade.

I grab my cup, thinking there is still Coke in it, but it is already empty. Being the designated driver whenever we go out, I usually just drink coke and get something to eat while Rebecca and Jade drink their body weight in whatever mixed drinks they decide on that night. It doesn't bother me to not drink since I get sick whenever I do drink, so I just stopped drinking all together.

Walking to the bar, to get another drink, is a challenge having to weave in and out of people or dodging those who are dancing without a care in the world, but I make it without an accident or bumping into anyone. The bar tender comes over to me with a smile.

"Do you want another Coke, Evie?" Samantha is the bartender at this bar and has been since I was a teenager. She's always given me a motherly vibe whenever I have talked to her and I have taken a liking to her.

"Yes, please."

"You can put it on my tab." A man's voice, to my right, causes me to jump slightly. I look to see the man that has been staring at me all night. He has a pretty smile and deep brown eyes. "My name's Trevor." He says, holding his hand out to me, waiting for me to shake it. I politely shake his hand and telling him my name.

"Evie." I grab my drink that Samantha just set down and start walking back to my table, Trevor following close behind me. I spot Rebecca and Jade at a different table with the guys they were dancing with as I settle back at the table I've been at for the last few hours.

"I've been wanting to talk to you all night, I just had to get the courage up first." Trevor sits down in one of the empty seats at the table, his eyes glued to me, making me slightly uncomfortable, but I brush that feeling off. "You're just so beautiful and it honestly made me nervous." I feel my cheeks burn as the blush swallows my whole face.

"Oh I'm not that great, nothing to be nervous about coming to talk to me. You, on the other hand, are very handsome, so I apologize for being shy and awkward." My stomach in knots and butterflies at once, I stare down at the glass in my hands.

"Oh, you're fine. Nothing to be shy or awkward about, I won't hurt you in the slightest."

It's too late to turn back now

Oh god, I tried, but I don't know how
