Noah's awake moments were starting to get a little blurry, finding himself shaking awake more often than not. What really took him out of this trance was Do-yun's chair screeching the floor once again. He looked up to see the other with his things gathered. He didn't even spare him a glance as he made his way to the elevator, only slightly locking eyes with him just before the doors closed slowly and separated them till the next working day.Noah took a big breath and exhaled very loudly, feeling like he had forgotten to breathe for a while. He wasn't gonna stay here any longer, he too swiftly gathered his things and closed his computer. He didn't take the elevator, instead he opted for the stairs that led to the company parking lot. There he found his car, that was once sandwiched between other cars now parked alone in the middle of a lot of empty parking spots.
He unlocked it and relaxed as he sat in the familiar leather seat. He knew he probably shouldn't be driving in his fatigued condition but he couldn't just leave his car out there, what would he do the following morning? He was gonna make it for future Noah's sake.
With keys in hand he unlocked the door to his apartment, a spacious big floor apartment decorated in a modern way along with earthy tones, he had chosen a lot of the furniture pieces himself.
With no time to spare for his usual skincare and hair night routine, he quickly changed into his pajama pants and flopped onto his bed. As soon as his head hit the pillow, he was already fast asleep.
The next day, with renewed determination, Do-yun made his way to the office. He left the subway station, feeling nervous, Do-yun had a bad feeling lingering and it unnerved him.
He looked around. The streets were crowded with people, all rushing to their destinations. Do-yun made his way to the company hastily, as he crossed a busy intersection he swore he could see a familiar car. It looked like Noah's car, he thought to himself.
As he began crossing the intersection, a speeding car came out of nowhere, slamming into him with a sickening thud.
The impact sent him sprawling onto the pavement, his body buttered and bruised badly. Passersby rushed to his aid, frantically trying to find a way to help but Do-yun tuned them all out.His world went hazy as he lay there, in excruciating pain, the sirens of the approaching ambulance growing louder and louder and that's when his vision went black. As Do-yun slowly regained consciousness in the hospital, he found himself surrounded by the sterile, unfamiliar environment of the medical ward. The soft beeping of machines and the distant voices of nurses filled the room. His body ached with pain, and his head throbbed from the accident.
Confusion and disorientation washed over him as he tried to make sense of his surroundings. He blinked, adjusting to the harsh overhead lights, and as his vision cleared, he realized he was in a hospital bed, hooked up to various monitors and IVs. Panic momentarily gripped him as he tried to remember how he had ended up there.
Then, the memories of the accident came rushing back. The speeding car, the impact, the excruciating pain. A wave of fear and vulnerability surged through him, and he couldn't help but tremble.
Turning his head slightly, he saw a small window with sunlight filtering in, casting a warm glow over the room. Despite the pain and confusion, that small sliver of natural light provided a glimmer of hope and comfort.
The realization of the severity of his injuries began to sink in. He felt a deep ache in his body, and the thought of the long road to recovery ahead weighed heavily on his mind. Thoughts of work, his colleagues, and the unfinished project flickered through his thoughts.
As he lay there, vulnerable and uncertain, Do-yun's emotions swirled.Various rumors about the accident were spreading in the office. His coworkers could be heard discussing the incident, "Hey, did you hear about Do-yun's accident?", He asked the one that was in the cubicle next to him.
"Yeah, I heard. I can't help but wonder if it was all just a big excuse to get out of work.", he whispered back. The other nodded, agreeing "I mean it did happen right before that big project deadline. It's a bit suspicious don't you think?".
He hummed, "Maybe he just needed a day off?" He chuckled cruelly. The other worker chuckled as well, "I mean a lot of people will do just about anything to avoid work, Do-yun might just be one of them."
Do-yun is without a doubt a very introverted person, he hardly spoke with anyone, he didn't have any friends in the office, he prefered being alone rather than pretending to like everyone. The rumors that have been spreading could only serve as proof, that the rest of his coworkers hardly even knew him.
Noah got up the next morning feeling like shit, which was not very unusual these past couple of days. He rushed to the bathroom, ready to take on whatever damage his last night self had done to his face and hair, he was determined to look presentable at the very least.
By the time he was done, he could sense he was already late before even looking at the clock. Looking at it only verified his fears of a late arrival, not very future CEO behavior there, Noah, he thought to himself. He rushed to the apartment complex parking lot, spotting his car parked a little hazily on his parking space. That must have been the fault of his last night fatigue. He climped at the drivers sit as fast as he could and took off for his usual drive to the office.
Ding, the notification sound was heard from his phone a couple of time, he tried to pay it no mind but by the third vibration his curiocity took the better of him. He averted his eyes from the road for a second and picked up his phone, quickly seeing from the preview that it was nothing of importance. Before he had the chance to throw it back at the passengers seat-
Bang
A loud clash was heard from in front of him. There was suddenly everything, commotion, people gathering, and an ambulance was called by a passerby in no time. It didn't take a lot of time for Noah to connect the dots that someone was hit. He froze in fear for a second as he stopped the engine and got out of his car. He couldn't stop the sigh of relief that escaped him when he realised he wasn't the perpetrator. He turned his head around to look at where the people had gathered, and he continued watching as the ambulance arrived and picked up the wounded man into the portable bed- but he could have sworn he had seen him before.
He rushed near the ambulance car, which earned him some strange looks from the passer-by's, which he decided to ignore. It's Do-Yun! His hand was raised to cover his mouth in shock. Before anyone could ask him his relation to the patient he quickly made his way out of the scene and back into his car.
The rest of his drive to the office passed by in a flash, his mind lost a little after he had seen his colleague lying there, unconscious, after he had watched him work the night away only a few hours beforehand.
Of course the office staff quickly noticed Do-yun's absence in the day, and soon the whispers of 'I hope he is okay', turned to 'Wow, how nice of him to just take a day off without notice'. Noah tried to mostly keep himself out of such conversations, but there were times he couldn't avoid it, like when a fellow coworker, a brunette woman working a few cubes down the hall approached brought him coffee, as she commented on today's "hot topic", "Haha, i wish i could take a day off like that, wouldn't that be nice?".
Her smile was small on her face, like a laugh that wasn't quite there yet. Noah replied with a shake of his head and an affirmative sound, "Oh, even if i could i dont think i would want to just leave a position empty like that, everyone is vital in the office you know?"
"Yes, exactly!" She agreed passionately with Noah, hitting the back of his chair lightly.
"Now someone else will have to take on his workload... jeez... what an unfriendly guy."And with that she would leave him to continue his work.
Before he knew it it was 5 pm. He would not stay overtime just this once, he didn't feel like staying over at an empty office in an empty building today. He got back into his car and started to take the familiar road back to his house when he thought...
What hospital did they take him to?
He changed his destination quickly , and not before long he was standing outside of the general hospital of the town, some flowers in hand, just so he doesn't look out of place of course.
"Excuse me," he called to the old busy woman at the reception, "I am here to see Do-yun Han, he must have been admit this morning."The lady, giving only a stern confused if not disgusted look over at Noah, pointed to the stairs at the left. "Room 499". And thats where Noah set course for.
