Authors POV:
The earthy sounds of trees rustling and the soft chirp of birds singing and woodland creatures running around as they go on with their daily routines of life are all you hear in the woodsy barren land and its calm, peaceful atmosphere. This was a small forest surrounding the small town of Harvington, a town that resided in the small country of Bay Terrence.
The mood was right on this Saturday afternoon as the sun was high and its beautiful rays cascaded over the woods like a blanket over a sleeping giant. Its beams of light causing the trees to look a pretty golden color as the animals looked like they were covered in magical glowing pixie dust. The time was 11:45 a.m. when laughter and talking suddenly filled the once slightly quiet woods of Yddasir Lake as a group of energetic teens made their way to a destination they had set in mind. The destination in question was a beautiful clearing that was filled to the brim with wildflowers and grass, some parts longer than others, with trees surrounding it in all different shapes and sizes, and had a perfect view of the clear blue sky above them.
And just like the cherry added on top of your already perfect sundae, this clearing had a Lake only five minutes away from where they would be. The lake in question was a stunning shade of blue with trees and wildflowers surrounding it and had a little clearing at the edge filled with smooth stones and glittery rocks. I mean it was just the most perfect spot to hang out or more importantly in their case, have a picnic. So here they are now all bubble and giddy as they finally reach their destination with huge smiles on their faces and laughter and excited speech on their tongues.
As soon as the clearing was in sight the youngest members of the group along with the more outdoorsy ones immediately ran into the tall parts of the grass and started to play around with each other. They played as the older members of the group found a shaded area and started to unpack their things and set up the spot where they would be eating. Kira and Raine giggled as they picked different flowers calling over Tea and Joy from time to time to show them what they had found. Once everything was ready almost like a mother calling out to her kids the oldest of the group, Jackie did the same calling out for, Lilliany, Kira, Raine and, Ana to come sit and eat.
Once everyone had their food and were all sat on the blankets they brought they all immediately dug in, munching happily on their sandwiches and chips while others sipped their beverage of choice. There was a light breeze and the flowers swayed along with it almost like they were dancing to the rhythm of the woodsy music of the outdoors. Slowly as they continued to munch on their food the soft murmurs of laughter and talking started to fill the air once more.
Eventually, the Lake was brought up "Hey who wants to go in the lake after we are done? I mean it's right there" Kaylie said while pointing in the direction of where the lake was. " I mean I don't see why not. We did bring our bathing suits just in case" Kira said with an expression that had a mixture of 'it is a good idea' and 'I kinda wanna go'. The others all nodded or mumbled softly in agreement indicating that they all thought that it was a good idea and that they too wanted to go. With that settled the group finished off their food, lightly packed up their stuff, and made their way to the lake.
As they walked all they could think about was how the cool, clean, crystal-clear water would feel on their skin. Refreshing them from the summer heat and bathing them in the cool waters of the shaded lake. As soon as the lake was in sight a few of the younger members immediately took off to get in first, they of course had come in their bathing suits. Jackie and Tea along with some others, helped put the stuff down before setting up a portable changing room that they brought for everyone to change in. One by one the entire group got changed into their bathing suits, now all ready for a water fest they all ran and got in the lake.
Laughing and giggling like a bunch of children they played like them too splashing each other and playing fun games as they soaked in the water until their fingers pruned.
As time went on their shenanigans continued until the sun began to set. The once-blue sky slowly became a beautiful gradient of pink, orange, and purple. An ombre effect that only nature could pull off. They all got out and dried their bodies comparing their pruned hands to one another as they once again took turns putting their clean dry clothes on. Once they were all done they grabbed their things and made their way back to the clearing.
Only five minutes later they were back to where they started. Almost like the gods were blessing the land a magical light was slowly cast from the moon onto the wildflowers below making the thousands of tiny little fireflies awake from their slumber and become one with the night. Tea looked up at the sky and saw the last of the sun disappear as the moon rose and the millions of crystals in the sky started to shine. Smiling softly at the sight she was immediately brought back to reality as her friends called out to her. "Come sit with us Teairra," Niomi said as she beckoned Tea over to the blanket that she and Jackie sat on. Smiling even more she lightly jogged to the spot plopping herself down next to them and picking up a piece of mochi from the snack container in front of them.
With smiling faces and twinkling eyes, everyone in almost unison looked up at the dazzling display of dance that the stars were giving them. Murmuring softly at the beauty everyone laid back or continued to sit as they looked at the stars. Feeling content and peaceful at the sight they were witnessing they watched and watched almost like they were in a trance of galactic hypnotism. They sat there for what felt like an eternity, when in reality it had only been 2 hours, and finally decided it was time to get up. It was now 11:16 they had been there all day and some of the members (Joy, Gabe, and Tea) were starting to get tired and were starting to doze off.
With a couple of complaints and some yawns of agreement they got up and once again packed their things. Making their way back to the entrance of the forest that they had come through earlier that day. As they walked the air was silent only the soft crunch of their footsteps on the forest floor and the chirps of crickets as they made their music is all you hear as they get closer and closer to the entrance. Once there they said their goodbyes to one another and gave their hugs as they got in the cars that they came in and drove off.
Driving off to their homes some slept because they were sharing a car and some drove in either silence or with soft music playing in the background. Once They all got home after either being dropped off or finally just arriving home safe and sound, they texted each other goodnight and how much fun they had. The most common thing they agreed on was that the best part of the whole outing was definitely the lake. Finally texting their final goodnights they got comfortable in their beds and was ready to sleep soundly never even knowing that going in that lake would change their lives forever.
