The opportunity of a lifetime.

That's what they called it. A full ride to St. Augustine-the most prestigious, exclusive, and disgustingly rich boarding school in the country. A place where the elite sent their kids to become even more insufferable.

And then there was me.

I didn't belong here. Not with these spoiled trust fund demons wrapped in designer blazers. But every year, the school picked one scholarship student-probably for PR reasons, to prove they weren't completely heartless.

Lucky me.

I glanced around. Stone walls, ancient towers. Straight out of a fucking horror movie.

I exhaled, rolled my shoulders back, and then I walked straight into hell.

**

My dorm was in the North Wing and by the time I found my room, I was ready to throw my bag through the door and call it a day.

Instead, I opened it to find someone already inside.

The other guy was already there, stretched out on his bed like he had nowhere better to be. Blonde, sharp-jawed, wearing a half-unbuttoned uniform shirt. He glanced up as I walked in, looking me over "My roommate, I assume?"

"Unless you were expecting the Queen," I muttered, tossing my bag onto the bed.

That got a quiet laugh out of him. "Theodore Ashford," he said, sitting up and offering a hand. "But everyone calls me Theo."

I didn't take it.

His smile didn't waver as he pulled his hand back. "Are you going to tell me your name? Because that's usually how these conversations go."

I exhaled, unzipping my bag. "Elias Mercer."

"Where are you from?"

"Not here."

"I figured. That's why I asked."

I glanced up. Theo was watching me with an easy smile.

What the fuck was this guy on to be so happy all the damn time?

I shrugged. "Small town. You probably wouldn't know it."

Theo hummed like he wasn't convinced but didn't push it. "Well, welcome to St. Augustine. Have you met anyone except me?"

"Not really. Just got here and came straight to my dorm."
