The family sits all neat and proper
At their perfect table in their perfect house
While the sad little man in the TV says
"The moon will fall."
The moon will fall
The mother cries
The father shouts
And little Jimmy does not understand
But the Red Dress Girl just sits on the floor
Alone, she does not say a word
Her mother's eyes tremble with the sharp glint of fear
Her father's fists clench into steel
They gather Jimmy up and hold him tight
But not the Red Dress girl
Never her
The cries and shouts of the desperate and scared
Grow louder with each tick of the clock
Their voices rise into a symphony of screams
"When?" They ask "When will we die?"
The Red Dress girl just stares ahead
Not blinking
Not saying a word
Everyone knows there's something wrong
With the little girl who has no voice
To her parents she is an embarrassment
A mistake in their perfect lives
"Why wont you speak!" They shake her and scream
But the Red Dress girl keeps quiet
And simply
Thinks
Her mind is like an endless hallway
With every door leading to things only she can see
The Red Dress Girl is always wandering through this hall
Peeking inside magical worlds that take her breath away
Neither her father's harsh shouts
Or mother's stinging slaps
Can do anything to make her leave
For only she sees the truth of it all
And why would she leave such beauty
For the cruel despair of reality
So the Red Dress girl keeps quiet
As she twirls to the music in her head
When news comes of the falling moon
She knows that this is the end
She feels no fear, no pain
She feels nothing at all
Just stares at the clock with its mocking hands
The mocking hands of hope long gone
Fingers stretching towards eternity
As if to tell the world
It's time to die
The Red Dress girl hears frightened wails
Sees her family huddled up close
Her they ignore, not sparing a glance
Waiting for the world to end
The Red Dress girl slips outside
Runs her fingers through the blooms of spring
The silence is a welcome relief
No sound at all
Not even the whistle of wind
She lies down in the bed of flowers
Sweet perfumes filling her lungs
The Red Dress girl stares up at the sky
She waits
A delicate lullaby fills her thoughts
The notes spinning, flying through her head
"It is soon." They sing
It is soon
She knows this
She accepts this
The ground starts to tremble
The sky falls dark
"It is time." The song whispers
And around the globe, over mountains and seas
Everyone knows
It is time
The world is now silent and cold
But not for the Red Dress girl
As the moon hurtles to earth
She dances in a meadow of light
The sky is painted with the soft hues of dawn
The sun comes up, its brilliance blinding her
She laughs
The moon hits
On the barren planet that was once earth
There sits in shambles a beautiful house
A family lies within, holding each other tight
A mother, father and son
As if asleep
Complete and perfect
But if one were to wander outside
They would see a little girl
A girl in a tattered red dress
Covered in a blanket of ash
Her tangled hair lies on a pillow of daisies
A smile graces her lips
