"It's getting late Christian. Though I've enjoyed this stimulating conversation, I must run. Call me tomorrow?" Jaxson told his younger brother, Christian on the phone. "But there's more." Christian pleaded. "I'm getting married!"
Jaxson's jaw dropped. Never in a million years would Jaxson have thought that Christian would say those words, let alone he would be still alive to hear them. Christian Paul Davidson getting married. Not the Christian that he knew. Jaxson always saw his younger brother as the skirt chasing playboy. Christian once said that he was not the marrying type. Didn't want to be tied down to one person for the rest of his life. But this is big news.
"Ok little bro, you have my attention. Now cut the crap and tell me what is really going on." Jaxson said, still in disbelief.
"I'm serious bro. I wouldn't have thought about it either, but I have been with the same girl for 5 years. Her name is Jamie. The real reason that I haven't mentioned her until now, is that she had been out of the country on an expedition in Africa with Green Peace, but she is coming home for good." Christian told Jaxson.
"So, this isn't the "I got a girl pregnant and I'm getting married to her to raise the "baby" story?" Jaxson asked.
"No Jaxson it isn't. I am really getting married. But I do have one small actually, a very big favor to ask." Christian said.
Jaxson thought. "Ok, here it comes. Christian needing a favor."
"Ok, Christian. I'm listening." Jaxson said.
"Will you be my best man?" Christian asked.
Ever since they were kids Jaxson and Christian lived for each other. They were thick as thieves, but that was until their parents' divorce and the pair of brothers got split up. Jaxson went to NYC and Christian stayed in Boston. Christian's and Jaxson's mom never remarried, but Jaxson's and Christian's dad did. So, since Jaxson went to live with his dad, he had his last name changed to Walsh to match his new stepmom, when he turned 18.
Honoring the brotherly bond that they still shared even though it was a long-distance bond, it was still a bond. Jaxson knew the right answer to Christian's question. "If you want me to be your best man, then yes, I will be your best man. But If I make this trip down to Boston and it turns out that you dragged me away from work, because you needed money for some hairbrained scheme, I am cutting you out of Dad's will and we will be done. Do you hear me?" Jaxson said but was still waiting for the other shoe to drop. There is a catch. There was always a catch with Christian.
"I know in the past that I haven't really been the best brother. I almost cost you your scholarship at NYU and now you must do that damn work study program just to pay for law school. I never got to say "I'm sorry and thank you" for what you did. Also, for all the other times you had to bail me out." Christian said.
"Listen bro, I did those things because you are my brother and I love you, but I am dead serious. If this is one big hoax, then we will be done, and nothing will repair the damage." Jaxson responded.
"I know you are serious bro, but just wait till you meet her. She has red hair, long legs, and the best smile." Christian said.
"She sounds great. Send me the details about the wedding. Now there is a tradition about the best man throwing your bachelor party. That is if you want one?" Jaxson asked.
"Well, I would definitely want that party. Christian's last big fling before he ties the knot." Christian said.
"You said it bro. Now my lunch hour is almost over, and I really need to get back to work." Jaxson said.
"Ok bro. We still haven't set a date yet but, I'll text you the details after we do some more talking." Christian said.
"Bro, it's not that I don't believe you. But based on your track record, and for my own sanity, I am going to request something. A Facetime meeting between you and her and me. Can we do that?" Jaxson asked.
