As a Teifling, Mercy had spent many days between Hell and the mortal plane. She had lived most of her younger years in Avernus, protected by her families hired Cambions. Mercy's family name, the Hellbloods, we're a high renowned bloodline that had connections to the mortal plane. This is the story of Mercy, and how she threw her life away to be a pirate.

"Bayleth-!" A voice called from outside of the young child's room. The voice was soft and calming, one of a motherly tone. Although, this was no mother. Bayleth laid down her book, brushing back her scruffy white hair behind her growing horns, and started to the door.

She opened the door, coming face to face with a female Cambion- large leathery wings, yellow piercing eyes, and the infernal horns. Long black and grey hair curled down around her horns, coming to a stop just above her shoulder. She smiled at Bayleth, crouching down onto her level and patting her head.

"My darling! How did you sleep?" She asked.

"Good." Bayleth replied quietly to the devil.

This Cambion- Ealia - was one of many hired guards that worked under the Hellblood's order. Ealia was one of their most hard working maids, who took a great liking to the Hellblood's youngest daughter, Bayleth. She was like a mother to her, since Bayleth's own mother was busy with her noble work.

"Your parents are waiting for you in the dining hall- seems important, little flame." Ealia said, reaching down for Bayleth's hand. She took the Cambion's hand, Ealia's gnarled nails menacingly holding against Bayleth's skin. They walked down the corridor, which was lined with painting of malicious acts and portraits of their family.

Bayleth always dreaded the day she would have to pose for a portrait- she always hated staying still. Her eyes scanned over the paintings and scrolls covering the walls, and Ealia noticed her attention waning.

"Little flame..." She said softly.

"Yes, Ealia?"

"We're here. I've got to be going, good luck my love!" She said, pecking Bayleth's cheek as she walked away, fading away in the dim torch light. Bayleth turned back to look at the door, sighing a bit.

Her parents were always a bit rough; as nobles, they had a image to withhold. Bayleth's father, Kosron, was less strict than her mother, at least. Kosron spent many evenings and nights teaching Bayleth and her siblings about the Hellblood's history.

The stories rarely caught Bayleth's attention, except for one. A story about a young Hellblood who escaped Avernus, and married an elf in the mortal plane. Their story was one to strike fear into the children, making sure they'd avoid ever leaving the mansions protection.

But not Bayleth.

Bayleth entered the dining hall, seeing her father and mother standing by the crackling fireplace, waiting for her arrival. Kosron was the first to spot Bayleth, and smiled softly at his daughter.

"Finally awake my dear?" He asked, beckoning her for a hug.

Bayleth walked over, hugging her father as her mother scowled. "Bayleth, you've kept us waiting longer than what I'd like." Her mother groaned, pinching her cheek.

"Sorry mother."

Her mother just sighed, rubbing her brow in annoyance. She stood up from her leather chair, fixing her dress down. Her mother had white hair like her own, but it was way longer than Bayleth's.

"Saphi... don't mind your mother-" Kosron started, brushing back Bayleth's hair with his callused hand. "She's just upset she couldn't sleep in." He smiled down at his child, his face creased with laugh lines and wrinkled.
