It was a beautiful night.
A delicate warmth settled in the air, hovering above the slight breeze that weaved it's way
through the massive boat. It sat in the river like a lazy buffalo, surveying the town a mile away on the shore. The boat was alive with a celebration; pounding music and laughing people and brilliant colorful lights that ignited the clear black sky.
It was a bomb wrapped in pretty packaging.
But we didn't know. No one could have guessed that this was a embrace of deception, a kiss of death.
I don't remember much.
I remember the energy, the excitement. I remember my mother's dress. It was made of white silk, overlapped by a shimmering veil of sheer cream material. Her sleeves draped to the floor and she was dripping in lace. The dress was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.
And it was the last thing I saw of my mother.
I remember the shiver traveling down my spine. I remember hearing the laughter turn to bloodcurdling screams of terror. I remember the sparks raining down on me. I remember the blistering heat of the fire. I remember the men with their intricately decorated blades. I remember being thrown off the ship. I remember floating away on my life jacket.
And I remember hearing my mother scream my name just before one of the men came behind her and sliced her throat open. She bled to death in front of my eyes, drops of blood slipping into the ocean and dying the water red.
The ship sank. Her remains lay at the bottom of the ocean. The town that lay beside the shore is now a charred graveyard.
This happened everywhere on the earth. Some survived, but many more died. It's been 17 years since that North Star peeked out from hiding. 17 years for it to it to scrape enough courage to come back.
The next North Star is born again tomorrow, but this time, thing will be different.
This time I'm going to kick some serious ass,
