The cold wind nips at my face. My sharp eyes scan the foggy graveyard slowly. The marble headstones and statues look dark and eerie. A full moon lights the mist to a soft glow.
The smell of death and wilting flowers mixes waking me up more, hiding the smell of the rest of my kind. A smell so familiar drifts my way. A smile finds my face, just the vamp I was looking for I thought.
"Felix?" I whisper, "Hey lazy! You awake yet?"
A rush of wind and my best friend attacks me, my back is pressed against the the cold ground by a bright gray eyed Felix showing me his fangs. He snarls.
"Look who's talking Cathal I'm always on top," Felix says proudly. Flinging himself on top of one of the tombs standing up on it hanging from the angel's arm. "I'm invincible!"
Felix has been my best friend since FOREVER. We grew up in France together, about 300 years ago. He shares my loathing for my terrible uncle who tricked us all those years ago.
"Would you like some holy water or maybe a cross then?" I say with a smirk. Felix hisses eyes wide I laugh. "If you had any faith it wouldn't affect you see?" I say showing him the cross around my neck that my sister Antoinette gave me 2 years before I turned.
I am one of the few vampires that chose to stay faithful... It has a lot of perks. Crosses and holy water have no affect on me, a vampire with a soul.
"It's no fair that they affect me," Felix pouts sitting down crossing his arms. Then struck by an idea he jumps down. Fire in his eyes. "If God existed Cathal, WE wouldn't. We're soulless creatures that are at the top of this food chain. We can rule over these stupid juice boxes for an eternity."
"You mean MOST of our kind are soulless," I think. About 4% of our population has a soul still for one reason or another. Most won a bet with a reaper the heartless soul keeper of all kinds helping the dieing pass on.
I laugh. "Juice boxes? Really where do you come up with this stuff? I don't want to rule over the humans they are not worth my time."
My vision starts to go black on the edges, "I need to feed...now! Or I'll black out again... a killing spree that I can't remember isn't really how I want to spend my night."
I have a rare condition for vampires, if I go too long without feeding I black out. I wake up a few hours later laying who knows where to the front of my shirt drenched in sticky, cold, drying blood.
"If you fed like a normal vampire you wouldn't have this problem." He sighs. "Let's go get you your dinner my little friend."
"Thanks" I say rushing out of the graveyard...the only safe place in this whole city for us. "Let's go get some sweet and innocent human to fall our pray."
"As we always do."
We walk down the streets sticking to the wonderful dark shadows. This isn't how I thought I would live my life.
The smell of alcohol was thick in the air in this part if town, voices slurred, hysterical bursts of laughter and loud voices ruled the alleys.
"See any you like?" Felix says over my shoulder breathing down my neck.
"any of them are fine Felix... Blacking out remember?" I say as the edges of my vision start to close in.
"Fine, fine. Have it your way." Felix says walking towards a pair of brunets "Hello lady's you two look like you could use someone to walk you home... You never know what could go bump in the night out here."
"Oh um thank you..." said the shorter one.
" I'm Felix and my friend over here his name is Cathal" He states bowing to the girls. I smile at the girls...well at their bare necks.
"Hello girls. Lets get you two home safe and sound!" I say. They nod and turn to walk home. I lick my lips. "good choices as always Felix." I whisper to him.
"yup, sweet quiet AND pretty just the way I like my prey." He whispers back with a smirk.
"How rude we are! We haven't even asked what your names are sweethearts." I say despite how thirsty I am I need to make sure that they trust us.
"I'm Ann and this is my sister Mari." The shorter one says smiling at me. I smile back my fangs slowly extending, though she doesn't notice.
We walk down another ally towards a few square apartments. It's now or never. "your very pretty Mari," I say pulling her closer to me, she blushes and her heart rate increases driving me crazy.
"Thank you." she says softly. I press her back to the wall and kiss her. Felix doing the same with Ann. I kiss her neck a few times right where her pulse is my fangs extend the rest of the way.
I let them sink into her soft skin just moments before I would of blacked out...this way I'll be able to stop myself before I kill her. Satisfied I pull away. Her heart beating enough for her to survive.
"Ditch them." Felix say dropping Ann to the ground.
"Thanks for the meal lady's." I say flashing a smile at the unconscious girls. "You two will remember none of this." I say slow and darkly hypnotizing them.
A wind blows a hated and familiar sent towards us. A snarl leaves me, fangs re-extending.
"Looks like your uncle is back in town." Felix says with a growl. "Lets go pay him a little visit."
"lets." balling my hands into fists, baring my fangs.
We rush towards the sent to find the man who destroyed our human lives.
