"Byul-ah, you know how dangerous it is to 'rest your eyes' at this hour,"
Moon Byul-yi's youthful manager put a careful hand on her shoulder. The warning got a soft hum in reply, which should have signified an agreement but Byul's eyes remained shut, her body draped over a couch in the dressing room; one arm hung off the edge of the lounge, the other resting over her waist.
Her manager sighed. "I'll give you no longer than five minutes. Then I'm shaking you awake."
Byul nodded solemnly, her eyelids feeling heavier than ever. She knew that idol comebacks alone were difficult, but solo comebacks were a new level of draining. She had done it a few times before, but this one seemed to be excruciatingly difficult.
Byul-yi had been away from her members for months now, each member pursuing their own solo careers and putting MAMAMOO works on hold for the moment. A lot of difficult things were happening with their company, contracts and staff swap outs, so solo comebacks were the most logical next steps to satisfy their creative brains and loyal fans.
When her eyes fluttered open, she genuinely couldn't tell if she had slept into tomorrow, or if she had only been resting for 30 seconds. She sat up, being careful not to alter the hard work of her hair and makeup stylists. She pat her undereyes carefully to rid the sleepiness from her eyes, feeling suddenly self-aware of the eyebags she felt weighing her entire face down.
"Is everything okay, Byul-ah? You don't look too well." Her manager studied her face carefully. Byul nodded her head as if it was an instinct, desperate to continue this m/v shoot as usual.
"Okay. I'll grab the makeup artist to touch up before we continue the shoot."
The current bleach-blonde sighed in agony, rolling her neck clockwise, and then anti-clockwise, trying to ease the knots she felt on both sides. She was developing more muscle pain than she had expected, which was strange because while this comeback was tiring she wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary.
A bright screen light surely woke her up entirely when she checked the time. The unbelievable hour that illuminated the screen didn't take her by surprise anymore– she was certain she would turn nocturnal one day.
She stood up suddenly, a wave of nausea, dizziness and a hot flash hitting her all at once. The world seemed to spin for a couple of seconds, forcing her to clutch onto a nearby chair. She only brushed it off for pure tiredness though; she would be done in an hour or two, then she would be able to go home and rest for a while.
Her legs drifted her into the direction of the makeup artists, going to them so that they wouldn't have to waste their time floating to her instead.
Brushes were poked and prodded into her eyes, and her cheeks, a quick touch up of lipstick being applied as well. She knew this feeling all too well– that didn't mean it got any easier.
"Byul," One of the artists spoke with a hint of concern plaguing her tone.
"Yes?"
"You're very warm." She expressed simply, not quick to make any assumptions.
