Chapter 5 | Confort Never Last Long In The Worst Situation

"It’s your fault…." 

That’s what Y/N heard when he opened the door to his apartment. When he entered, he saw his family, they had body parts that were missing, bloody face, their necks were chewed. Their eyes were empty and they were all staring Y/N. 

"You killed us…." 

Evan slowly approached Y/N with his head leaning more and more to the side with each step, before taking him in a hug, but “Evan” was empty, he had ni feelings and warmth. Y/N could not move and he had the impression that his memory was empty. 

"Big brother…" 

Then Evan began to bite Y/N’s arm as hard as he could, the intense pain startled Y/N who displayed a horrified look. 
Then… He woke up, the panic took over and this terrible feeling that every human being feels one day surfaced again in Y/N, it is called “guilt” . 
His breathing accelerated, then he noticed where he was and who was watching him. Everything was fine, he was in the shelter, in the bed he had each prepared, and Tommy was watching him... Even if we did not see the lower part of his face, his beautiful eyes as red as the most beautiful ruby showed emotions that we cannot express with words. In his eyes we see that he had understood what had happened but he said nothing. 
Eventually, Y/N’s breathing calmed down and he came to his senses. He could find comfort in Tommy’s deep red eyes, Y/N did not know exactly why he found them so comforting.... pretty yet so particular because having red eyes is not something you see often. 

"Nightmares…?" He asked in an even more hoarse voice than yesterday, looking from all sides to make sure no one had heard him. 

"Yes…." 

After that the silence was heavy, we saw that Tommy wanted to say something but no sound came out of his mouth. 
Then the others woke up, they had no idea what had happened yesterday. They all seemed sad and disappointed to realize that all this was not a nightmare, even though they were strangely not so shocked… 

The only thing they noticed is that when nobody talks, everything is silent, there is no noise. Compared to last night, when we were not talking, we could hear zombies in the city causing chaos. We could hear the flies flying so much at that time, the Earth was silent without humans. The only living humans were processing what was going to happen and what had happened. From the moment it all began, their lives would change forever... And sometimes even... end. 

"I should go to the roof to see what's happening…" Y/N whispered to himself. 

Y/N got up before heading to the stairwell, each step to get to the roof was a considerable effort. Arriving on the roof, the silence was even more stifling, Y/N approached the edge, making sure not to be pushed from the roof again by a damn zombie, he looked over the fence. And that’s when he saw them… Dozens and dozens of zombies were lying on the ground with a huge bloody hole piercing their skulls. They were all dead… Well again… But the real question Y/N asked was: Who is the "monster" who did this?

By monster, he meant someone who could possibly kill all those things... 

Y/N looked to the horizon for the cause and found it surprisingly quickly, a group of three men with guns and dangerous weapons advancing towards the mall, he also noticed something else that made him understand the gravity of what was going to happen. He ran towards the stairwell before tumbling down the stairs at an astonishing speed, he reached the center of the shelter where everyone was very quickly. They all looked at him with a look of incomprehension, before he shouted: 

"Take everything you can, we're getting out of here!" 

"Why??! What’s going on? Zombies??" Amelia shouted as she got up from her seat. 

"No! Worse than that… Three men armed who are very probably dangerous who killed a hundred zombies and a person to steal what he had on him!" 

By saying that, they very quickly took Y/N seriously before taking their stuff in a hurry. But before they could retrieve food, they heard a window break. 

"No time for food! Go hide! " Henry shouted, even if it was more of a loud whisper. 

They then all ran to the store where Y/N had hidden at their first meeting, they gently lifted the metal curtain not to make a noise. They hid behind the counter, while Henry was going to ask Y/N how he had seen it, they heard voices: 

"I heard a noise... You think there is people here?" The first man asked. 

"I’m sure there were people but these assholes had to time to leave! Remember that if we kill them it’s to save the world!" Answered the second man with anger in his voice. 

"Saving the world and killing people to steal their weapons and food to save others?" The third man asked sarcastically. 

"Yes! Otherwise my plan for this place will never be completed!" Replied the second man. 

Then they went too far for Y/N and the others to hear them. But Y/N wondered what "plan" he was talking about… Although in reality he would know soon enough. 

"Come on, everybody, let’s go!" Henry whispered. 

They are all sneaked out of the store discreetly before quickly exiting the mall through the broken window however, they had no idea whether the men had heard them or not. 
When they finally came out they saw the dozens of corpses of zombies spread on the ground, except Y/N they were all shocked and did not want to imagine what these men could have done to them, Tommy seemed more stressed than the others. 

Suddenly they heard a gunshot behind them, they didn’t have to think and just started running as fast as possible. They heard behind them a voice shouting at them but in the adrenaline of the situation they did not hear. 
After running for 5 minutes without stopping, they finally took a break to breathe, they also started to get fed up with Olivia complaining all the minutes about how bad her foot was hurting, it wasn't their problem if she was in heels. They all collapsed on the floor of fatigue, before one of them said something:

"Fortunately… that… it was not. 
Zombies because otherwise… we were screwed!" Amelia said breathing faster and her dry throat prevented her from speaking normally. 

Tommy was the only one who didn’t seem to be affected at all by this little run, he looked as good as before running, you couldn’t even hear his breathing. It was extremely suspicious but maybe he was just really athletic? 

When they had finally regained their breaths, they looked around to make sure that no zombie was around, but… even here, all zombies were “dead”. 
They all looked at each other, they had to leave this place as soon as possible. Henry headed for the nearest car, he gestured them to get closer. Then with his elbow he hit with all his strength one of the windows, then he hurried to open the door. The car’s alarm went off, she was making a terrible noise but the whole group ended up in the car. Henry was driving with Olivia next to him, behind there was Y/N, Amelia in the center and Tommy. They started the car before heading towards the exit of the city which was blocked by Zombies. But with all the noise they make, if there are still some who are “living” then they must all know where they are.

Sometimes our greatest enemies are other human beings and not zombies because they have unknown motivations.
