Katsuki nods despite the ringing in his ears and the way his brain feels like its fucking melting. Almost like a light switch, the boy goes back to normal. The ringing stops and the eye that appeared in his cheek is gone, as well as the dark void put away under his skin.
The little boy grins, dimples appearing on the corners of his lips, the corner of his eyes crinkling slightly.
"Thats more like it!"
The boy bounces around on the balls of his feet, going back and forth excitedly. It gives enough time for Katsuki to get his shit together, at least as much as he can in a situation like this. The adrenaline pumping through his veins makes him feel lightheaded and fills his mind with the need to get the fuck out of here.
The little boys' yellow boots finally hit the floor with a small thump, and the mischievous smile only seems to grow even more. It sends a chill down Katsuki's spine as the child's face almost looks likes its being torn apart by his smile alone.
If you could even call this little shit a child.
"I'll teach you how to play so don't worry! Its super easy to play!"
The boy points a small finger towards Katsuki's pocket, where the yellow whistle is.
"I get the whistle, and you have to find me! I have to blow it every five seconds, so i promise i wont cheat! You get twenty blows to catch me! Easy right!? But there's something I need to let you know first!"
The boys voice gets deep and distorted again, and Katsuki warily watches, making sure the ringing doesn't start in his ears for a third time.
"There's this really old mean lady who doesn't like it when I play around in here, so we have to be really sneaky!"
He drags out the 'really' for a good seven seconds before he goes back to his normal voice, cheery and high pitched.
"Ready to play?!"
He glares down at the little brat who quirks his head to the slide.
"What happens when I win."
The little boy giggles.
"Then I'll help you out of this library, easy peasy! But if you don't find me, you'll play with me until you die, and I get to gut you like a fucking fish and watch your hot intestines seep out of your body!"
Katsuki doesn't have a fucking choice in the matter as he hands the yellow whistle to the little boy, who eagerly grabs it, putting the string around his neck. His yellow bucket hat bounces on top of his head slightly as he grins.
"Count to five! No peeking!"
He runs off, his footsteps echoing slightly as they grow more and more distant. Katsuki is left alone, even if only for a moment. It feels like something is going to try and grab him if he doesn't start moving soon, and the feeling seems to stick with him.
One.
Two.
He wonders how long it's going to take to get the hell out of here and to his own home.
Three.
Four.
Five.
He finishes counting but doesn't say anything, just beginning to start looking for the boy. The sharp sound of a whistle cuts through the quiet and he goes in the direction. He has a thought that this should be pretty easy.
The brat has small ass legs, so it will take forever for him to really get anywhere, and with every five seconds, Katsuki is only going to get closer and closer. He walks faster in the direction he heard the sound, slight hope that this will all be over seeding itself in his chest.
Another sharp whistle, surprisingly far from the first whistle he heard only a couple seconds before. Completely on the other side, he hears giggling. He speeds up even more, practically racing towards the spot.
He can see the side of the counter from the end of the bookcases against the wall, and a cold sweat coats his body. He can't tear his eyes away and can't even more when the third whistle comes from the direction he's looking at.
The little boy is hiding behind the far side of the desk, giggling to himself. He whispers over,
"You found me, you big chicken!"
Katsuki doesn't even care about the taunt in the boy's voice as he stares at the fucking monster sitting-- he thinks its sitting but with the way its limbs are twisted he can't really tell-- just above the little boy.
Its hunched over, almost touching the ceiling as its body moves with its breaths, horrid and revolting. Katsuki feels like he's going to throw up just looking at the thing. That must be the women the little boy was talking about, his brain supplies.
Katsuki takes a step back, and the little boy giggles quietly again.
"I guess you win. Thanks for playing with me!"
He pulls something from out of his pocket and slides it over to him using the floor. It hits his shoe with a sharp clink, and he picks it up. A key. He looks back at the little boy, who blows the whistle loudly, already running from the counter with happy laughter.
In an instant, the monster is drawn to the sound as its eyes catch the little boy. It springs itself from the counter, using it to push itself off, leaving big cracks shaped as hands in the surface. Katsuki holds his breath and darts down the wall to the door that's just right in front of him.
He's right at the door, his hands shakily shoving the key into the lock and turning it. He hears a click and looks over even though he knows he shouldn't. The little boy is trapped in a corner of the library by the monster, his skin peeling back.
He doesn't waste any more time as he slams through the door and quickly shuts it, the sound echoing around the empty hallway he finds himself in. He pants, his ribs feeling like they're constricting against his chest, like he can't breathe, like he can't just fucking-
Something hits his shoe, and he glances down at the flashlight on the ground. He looks at the lockers in front of him and closes his eyes, making sure to count the seconds that he breathes in before letting it out. He does this a couple more times before picking up the flashlight.
Might as well get this bullshit over with.
He clicks the flashlight on, a small, concentrated beam of light now illuminating some of the hallway. He looks down both of the hallways. He drops the key, letting it fall to the ground.
Where should he go?
1) Go left
