One cut here
Once cut there
A few at a time
But I
Don't ever stop
And the blood
Keeps flowing
Until the water
Runs red
And I don't know
Where skin ends
And bone begins
It is all the same
This pain
This hurt
It ties me to
The earth
These cuts
That I have given
To myself
As a gift
A token of gratitude
For staying
Longer than I
Ever thought I would
And now they are
Simply scars
Criss-crossed
On my forearms
Raised lines
On my thighs
The bumps
On my stomach
The burns
On my back
They remind me of
A time when
I could not stay
Without pain
To keep me on
This beautiful earth
