I was growing inpatient, my blood boiling as my mother walked around my office, looking at all the business certificates hung on my wall. I crossed my arms staring at the woman, as if it could pierce her.
No words were said, until I heard a scoff as she watched the screen hanging from the corner of the room.
"Jeon Jungkook is hosting the biggest party in LA, open to all business owners located in Inglewood and Santa Monica. Reporters say that even Jiana Seong couldn't compete with such a spontaneous idea. The most that can be said is that this can lead to an incredible rivalry between these two incredibly dedicated entrepreneurs but only so many can say. After Ms. Seongs appearance at the photo shoot for the Times Magazine, people say she's "losing her touch" of—"
My mother hit the power button on the remote and tossed the remote of the tv at the coffee table, the batteries in the back popping out and rolling on the floor as she turned around with a sarcastic smirk.
"Embarrassing. You cannot and by all mean cannot let this slide." She said.
I scoffed. "A small party to buy business is not creative it's a way to drive people in. Invite people over for food, music and all you to is bribe them to give you everything they have for so little. I could pull that move with my eyes closed." I said, sipping from my glass of 'Stella rose' wine.
She walked around the couch and crossed her arms.
"Clearly not. They're shitting on your name. On national television !" She yelled. I rolled my eyes and turned around watching out the glass and into the beautiful city as she continued. "You're a successful business woman and just because some rich man with a pretty face who knows a trick or two pulls a stunt like this, you think it's nothing. Let me tell you something—"
"Stop!" I shouted. I set the glass on my desk and took a deep breath as I looked at my mother who's mouth closed up in silence and gaze became sharp. "I've made it this far, clearly without any help and I've never had an issue with Jeon Industry. Ever. Why? Because Seong House, my business of hard fucking work is making billions over small businesses. And why is that going to change just because Mr Jeon decided he needs a little more money? Hm?" My mother shook her head while her eyes stayed on mine.
"He bought a new building. He wants these businesses to relocate and we have no idea what he's cooking up in there." She said. "Go to that party—"
"Mom— what?" I laughed sarcastically. "If I show up there it'll look I'm a mole or trying to steal or figure out his plan—"
"If you show up and steal the show, you and him might come up with a business plan. Grow the company, Jiana." My mothers words sounded firm but desperate to get to me. I looked at her and signed. I slightly shrugged in surrender.
"Call the appearance and fashion department to my lounge. I'll have them get me ready for the event tonight." I said she nodded her head and took my glass of wine, finishing it off.
"Don't screw it up, Jiana." She said walking towards the door. She waved and spoke with a tease in her tone. "Besides, he's a pretty man. Don't be fooled."
