This first chapter will take place a couple weeks after Meredith left when she found out about Derek's death and will just be a short summary of y/n's first day as the new ortho attending as well as a backstory. The second chapter will be set when Meredith gets back and meets y/n for the first time.
I can't believe it. I finally get to start my job as the new ortho attending at grey-sloan. I met Callie Torres last week to start to get to know the hospital and the people i'm going to be working with for the foreseeable future. To say i was excited would be a huge understatement. I've wanted to work here for so long and now it's finally happening.
As i stand outside the building ready to start my new day i see one of my new coworkers Alex Karev who i met last week. "Hey y/n."
"Oh hi Alex. How was your weekend." i say as we walk into the hospital. "Not bad, not bad. Oh wait it's your first day right?"
"Yeah my shift starts in like half an hour."
"Me too. Attending's lounge?"
"Yeah let's go."Once we get to the attending's lounge we're met with Callie, Maggie, Richard and Arizona. I'm met with a chorus of hi's and good morning's which i reply to before going to change into my brand new navy scrubs. Once i come back into the lounge i am approached by Dr. Richard Webber. "Good morning Dr. l/n. Excited for your first day?"
"Morning Dr. Webber, safe to say excited is an understatement." i reply with a soft laugh and a smile. Webber returns my smile saying "Well good luck and i hope to see you around."
"Yeah you too."After my pleasant conversation with Richard i walk back over to Alex who is standing by the coffee pot so that we can start our shifts, coffee in hand. "Hey i'm gonna go follow Callie to see what i'm gonna a be up to today but i'll see you around yeah?" I said hopefully
"Yeah i'll see you around l/n" Alex replied with a smile.I have the feeling that me and Alex are going to be good friends because we're quite similar. Both caring but shielded and can be short-tempered. This is probably because of our similar upbringings and family relationships. I never really had any stable relationships in England, when i was younger. My father was never really in the picture and my mother fell ill when i was 14. This left just me to care for her. I had to push through my school work and study hard for my exams.
Somehow I managed to successfully juggle my exams and taking care of my mother up until the age of 18 when i went to medical school, meaning i was a lot more absent from my mother's care. She died not long after, i was only 19. After i finished medical school i joined the army for a short time as a medic and ended up as a surgeon on the battlefield where i specialised in ortho. I was later dismissed from the army due to an injury that resulted in the amputation of my left foot.
When i returned home the memories of my mother and childhood were too much so i decided to move to America as i had some of my mother's family in the states. This lead me up to where we are now. My first day as the new ortho attending at grey-sloan.
———————————————————————————
It's safe to say that my first day at grey-sloan was one of the best days i've ever had. Meeting all of my other colleagues and all of the interns and residents, my first surgery for a year, as well as the major adrenaline rush of being in the e.r. Just like being back on the battlefield. Just a lot cleaner.
