AUTHOR'S NOTE: The events of this one-shot were mentioned in book seven, Once In A Blue Moon, but they took place three years prior to it. I'm writing this to show how Kurt and Cassandra started to fall for each other. Also, I really like the idea of showing another, more human side to Cassandra. I honestly love this one so much. I think it's my favorite.
KURT TAKES CASSANDRA TO THE AMUSEMENT PARK
Cassandra Jones was annoyed. She was on an emergency assignment in Connecticut. There was an ancient evil rising and the slayers there needed help to put a stop to it. The top slayers in the Northeast had all been recruited to help, but Cassandra just wanted to get the job done and return to Salem.
"Hey, it's Cassie, right?" Kurtis Flint greeted her cheerfully. He'd been introduced to everyone at the meeting the previous night.
"It's Cassandra," she corrected him.
"Right, right... Doesn't anyone ever shorten it?"
"I occasionally respond to Cass."
"I like Cassie. It's strong, but cute. I think I'll call you that."
"I'm not cute," she said sharply.
"No, but you're gorgeous and a complete badass. I just want to get to know you better, Cassie."
She rolled her eyes. It was clear she wasn't going to win this fight. "Keep it in your pants, Kurtis."
"It's just Kurt. And don't worry; I can be a gentleman."
"What's our mission today?" Cassandra asked.
"We patrol tonight, when the sun sets. Until then, I get to show you around town."
She wanted to argue, but it might be a good idea to get the layout of the area down before she started working. "Alright. Where are we going?"
"What about Mystic Superland? You can't come to town without checking that out."
"What is it?"
His jaw dropped. "You've never heard of it? Oh, Cassie, you're in for a treat!" He grabbed her hand and dragged her toward the mysterious destination.
She was confused when she saw several rides and other attractions behind a gate. "How is this going to help me do my job, Kurt?" She asked.
"It's an amusement park, Cassie. It's where people go to have fun. You do know what fun is, right?" He replied.
She glared at him. "I'm guessing you know in theory, but not in practice?" Kurt asked. "Come on, Cassie. Let me show you what living really is."
"This isn't why I'm here, Kurt," she protested.
"I won't tell if you won't. It'll be our little secret." He smiled at her, and for some reason, Cassandra couldn't bring herself to tell him no. He looked so eager to introduce her to this place, and she couldn't deny that she kind of liked the way he smiled.
"Fine, but I don't see the point," Cassandra finally agreed.
"You will," he promised. He paid for their tickets. Cassandra was about to protest, but Kurt put his hand up. "This was my idea, so I'll pay," he said. She couldn't even argue with that.
As they entered the park, Cassandra heard screaming. She tensed, ready for a fight. Kurt gently touched her arm.
"It's okay, Cassie," he said. "It's good screaming."
"When is screaming ever good?"
"When you're screaming because you're having fun. You have a lot to learn, but I'm a good teacher. Come on." Kurt led her to a large wooden rollercoaster.
