Seven a.m. my alarm goes off, I roll over and stop it from sounding. I put my pillow over my face not ready to get up but knowing that I have to. After five extra minutes of rest I get up out of bed, go over to my closet and grab my work clothes that I put aside last night before bed. Walking over to my window I open my curtains and let the beautiful sunshine beam through. The light hitting me in my eyes I squint a bit. Looking out the window at the beautiful blue sky, birds chirping and flying, the nice breeze hitting the leaves on the trees I take in a deep breath and head to my bathroom to take a shower. Rubbing my body with shower gel and feeling the warm water hit my beautiful brown skin I slowly sink into a deep serene state. The smell of the lavender shower gel fills the bathroom and takes my breath away sweetly. I find myself at peace, not wanting to end this shower but I have to start my day. Turning off the water I step out of the shower and grab my towel hanging on the rack and wrap my body with it. Making my way to the sink I look in the mirror and fiddle with my hair trying to figure out how I want it for the day. Not trying to do too much I grab my Shea Moisture Curl & Style Milk, rub it in my hands and apply it to my hair, leaving it down and curly. Quickly I apply my eyeliner and mascara and that's that, I'm satisfied. I unwrap myself of the towel I'm in and let it fall to the floor, quickly grabbing my black bra and lace black panties putting them on, I grab my black dress pants, white floral collar shirt and slip into them. Checking myself in the mirror I make sure I like what I'm wearing and comfortable with everything today. I stroll back into my room, walk over to my drawer and pull out a pair of black dress socks, sit on the edge of my bed and put them on. Reaching down I grab my black casual shoes sitting at the foot of my bed and slip my feet into them. I pick up the deodorant and perfume sitting on my nightstand and apply both before leaving out and heading downstairs. In the kitchen my dad is preparing breakfast.
"Hey good morning. I'm making pancakes if you're hungry".I glance at his pancakes. They don't look editable.
"No thanks, I think I'll pass on those.""What's wrong with my pancakes?"
"Dad you never knew how to make them". I pour myself a glass of OJ.
"I'm trying." my dad says as he puts a pancake on his plate.
"Did the mail run already?" I ask before taking a nice sip of orange juice.
"yeah". He picks up the mail off the kitchen counter and hands it to me. I sit at the the kitchen table and go through it. "Trash, trash". I get to the electric bill and open it. It reads "PAST DUE AMOUNT: $575.25" "SHUT OFF NOTICE" I stare at the bill. "Gosh.""Ava I don't want you to stress out over that Bill okay?".
Shaking my head I reply "How am I not supposed to stress out? It's past due. If we don't pay it we're going to be without lights".
I walk over to the sink by my dad, he places his hand on mine. As I look up at him I can see the hurt in his eyes as he softly replies "We'll get it paid". I finish off my orange juice and sit the glass in the sink, kissing my dad on the cheek I grab my bag and then leave out for work. Like everyday I take a nice fifthteen minute walk to the same bus stop to make it to work. This is my daily routine. Today it's humid outside but luckily there's a nice breeze to keep me somewhat cool as I stand waiting in the heat. The bus arrives at eight twenty on the dot. I've got this thing down to a science. I step on the bus and greet the driver with a good morning like always, inserting my two dollars into the machine and take my favorite seat in the front by the window. This twenty five minute ride is one of the highlights of my day. Just riding looking out the window I can let my mind escape for a moment and get away from the stress and struggles I'm dealing with in life on a daily. The sound of a phone ringing snaps me back into reality from my daydream. I see my stop is coming up so I pull the yellow wire above my head to sound the bell signaling my stop to get off. As the bus driver comes to a stop I stand and thank him for the ride, he reply's back with a nod and smile. I proceed off the bus and head across the street to job number one.
