I work at a high end jewelry slash clothing store called BLOOMS where everything is high-priced, even the socks cost a pretty penny. As I walk through the doors i'm greeted with a smile and "Good morning Ava" from Megan. She's one of the cashiers that's actually pretty cool and not stuck up like damn near everyone else that works here. Out of 5 employees she's the only person that I talk to besides the owner Andrew and he and I rarely have things to talk about. I reciprocate the greeting and add a finger wave. Making my way to the back I sit in the break area for the free ten minutes that I have for being early. Just as i'm starting to really relax the owner Andrew walks in and starts a conversation. "Ms. Campbell i'm glad to see you here." "You know me, never miss a day." He smiles.
"Yes I know. You're a very dedicated worker, unlike anyone I've ever met. I like that and appreciate you more than you know."
Should a boss say things like this to his employee?
"Well thank you Mr. Nelson, Really. I appreciate the kind words." I say as I look at my watch and stand to leave out, grabbing my bag off the table.
"You can call me Andrew, you know. I mean i'm only about five years older than you. You're making me feel old."
He gives a small laugh.
"I'm sorry, I'm... That's not my intentions to make you feel that way. It's just respect for you being my boss."Looking at me he nods his head in an understanding way without removing his eyes off mine. This has become awkward so I go for my exit strategy.
"Okay well i'm going to clock in and get to work."
"Yes, of course" I smile. "Okay."I make my way out of the break area, clock in and head to the front to register two. Placing my bag under the counter I then sign into the register. Right across from me is Megan. "So has it been busy yet?"
"Not yet. A few people have been in bought some things but you know it's not going to get busy until later on in the day."
"Yeah."
"But yesterday was busy. This one guy came in and bought a shit load of clothes. Racked up a decent bill. Definitely wished you were here."
"I had class."
"Oh yeah your art class. How's that going?"
"It's going good actually. I can go there release and escape from the world for three hours."
The door bell sounds letting us know someone has entered. Megan grabs my arm. "That's him! That's the guy!" With her excitement I knew she had to be speaking about the guy from yesterday. I turn to see a young, handsome man dressed casually in a nice grey long sleeve button up shirt tucked neatly in his black slacks paired with causal black shoes looking through shirts and socks. He has to be in his twenties."This is the guy that racked up a nice bill?"
"Yes, and every woman in here couldn't take their eyes off him yesterday. Even those two over there."
Megan nodded towards our work associates Shannon and Danielle who was drooling over this man. Their eyes were glued to him. "He's handsome" I hear Megan whisper.
"Yeah, he looks good." I reply to Megan playing it cool but knowing I feel the exact same way she feels. The same way Shannon and Danielle feel but I keep my cool. When he's done picking his clothes he starts to walk towards mine and Megan's counter only to be stopped by Shannon.
"You can come over here, I'll be more than happy to ring you up."
Megan rolls her eyes "Here she goes." I look over at him and his eyes catches mine. A five second stare takes place until I look away and he proceeds over to Shannon. Megan looks at me "What was that?"
"What was what?" I replied to Megan.
"He stared at you like he knew you or he's interested in you."
"He's not interested in me and he definitely doesn't know me so."
