Cleaning (Nearly) Too Late

Chongyun's POV

I read his note.

HIS HANDWRITING IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND GRACEFUL!!

And he has such a pretty name to!!

Ooh~ boba~ I love boba!

Ahhhh!! (he's internally squealing), okay I have to go to the gates this after school, and hopefully not mess up and be an absolute mess. (⁠╥⁠﹏⁠╥⁠)

I proceed to nod at him, and then turn back to the teacher to focus on the lesson, so that I don't fail my test, and get a bad grade. I might get punished by my parents if I do.

Xingqui's POV

Ah! He nodded back at me!! Yay! I'll take that as a yes.

Gotta focus on class, so that I don't stuff up and look like a loser.

AFTER SCHOOL (at the gates)

I quickly skip to the gates once class is over, happily humming to myself thinking about the flavor of boba to recommend to Chongyun.

I finally decided that a blueberry milk boba with black pearl would be best for him.

I stand by the gate with my bag patiently, watching as students pass by, chatting joyfully on their way home.

I suddenly get a tap on the should that surprises me.

"Hey Xingqui!" I hear a familiar voice behind me and turn around to see Hu Tao and Yanfei.

"Hello Hu Tao, Yanfei." I greet politely.

"Whatcha doing here? Waiting for someone?" Hu Tao says slyly trying to suggest a romance.

"Yes, I am waiting for someone. Someone I hope to be good friends with." I say with a smile.

"Oh ho ho~" Hu Tao hums happily, smirking at me. "Well, I hope you have a good time with this mysterious person~" She says as she walks away, swinging her hips playfully.

"Hope you have a good time!" Yanfei chirps, as she follows her girlfriend out the gate.

30 MIN LATER

"It's getting kinda late... I hope he didn't forget..." I said to myself leaning against the wall by the gate, looking a little downcast.

1 HOUR LATER

"Hah... I should've known that he wouldn't come... It's getting late, I should get going home." I said as I turned around and started walking out.

"XINGQUI!!" I suddenly heard a shout behind me. I swiftly turn around to find Chongyun sprinting towards me, backpack flying behind him, sweat running off his head, and a halo of sunset light shining on his hair.

He ran up to me, panting, and gasping for air.

"So. Got an explanation?" I said, arms crossed, and tapping my foot angrily.

"I'm so sorry! I'm so SO sorry!! I got caught in cleaning duty, and my cleaning buddy ran away!" Chongyun said, crouched over panting, his backpack about to fall off his shoulder.

"Hah. Fine. Come on, let's go! Do you still want to get boba?" I said giving in, and taking Chongyun's backpack off of him, and swinging it over my own shoulder.

I smile at him before turning around and walking away, signaling him to follow me.

Chongyun's POV

(1 hour 30 min before running out to Xingqui)

"Chongyun. Edel. You are both on cleaning duty today." The teacher called out before leaving the classroom.

I looked over to the other boy in charge of cleaning, who was also packing up his bag to leave.

"Tch. I'm not doing any cleaning! You do it! Blue haired boy. I'm leaving. Let's go guys." Edel said as he signaled to his friends to leave.

"Wait! but you'll get in trouble if you don't help!" I called out weakly, but they didn't hear and leaving the classroom, and leaving me alone to clean.

'Maybe I can ask Xingqui to help me... no. I don't even know him well. I just found out his name today! For Archon's sake Chongyun! Just get this done quickly, then you can get boba with Xingqui! Yay!' I thought to myself as I started cleaning.

But nothing went right. I accidentally knocked over the mop bucket, then several of the chairs fell over when I tried to stack them.

Arghhh!! This is taking forever!! I'm never gonna finish in time! I bet Xingqui already left...

I looked out the window and saw Xingqui, leaning against the gate wall, reading a book, waiting for me.

He's still here!? I have to finish up quickly!

I managed to finish up within the next 30 min, with the zero accidents, luckily...

Okay! I have to meet up with Xingqui! I think as I check his spot one more time (he's still there!), I grab my bag loosely and sprint out of the classroom, and down the corridor, passing teachers yelling at me to stop running in the corridor, but I can't listen. I have to get to Xingqui! I can't miss this opportunity, to be friends with the beautiful boy!

Damn it! When did the gate get so far away! I think as I continue to sprint out the front entrance and into the courtyard.

Oh no! he's walking away! I have to get his attention!

"XINGQUI!!" I shout (and really loudly too. Damn I didn't know I could shout that loud).

Finally, I reach Xingqui.

"So. Got an explanation?" I hear him say with a slightly angry voice.

"I'm so sorry! I'm so SO sorry!! I got caught in cleaning duty, and my cleaning buddy ran away!" I say breathing heavily.

Suddenly I feel the weight of my backpack on my shoulder lift off of me.

"Hah. Fine. Come on, let's go! Do you still want to get boba?" Xingqui says, as he swings my backpack over his shoulder. He smiles at me then turns around and signals me to follow him.

I quickly stand up straight and rush to his side, stealing my backpack away from him.

"So, where are we going?" I ask curiously.

"We are going to Guoba Boba! It's run by a good friend of mine, and she makes amazing boba!" Xingqui says looking very happy.

I smile at his cuteness, "Okay! Sounds good!" I say in reply, smiling at him softly.

He doesn't notice though. (⁠╥⁠﹏⁠╥⁠)
