Solis Occasus ~ setting sun

Hyunjin's POV:

*— Friday afternoon ~ 4:10pm —*

She takes my hand off of her mouth and throws them up in defeat just in time for the light to turn green. I begin to drive off towards the store. The car ride is quiet for a few minutes until I see Y/N bend forward from her seat and plug the aux into her phone. She scrolls for a short time and then the intro of the song plays.

*I was a liar, I gave in to the fire//I know I should've fought it, at least I'm being honest//Feel like a failure, 'cause I know that I failed you//I should've done you better, 'cause you don't want a liar...*

She starts vibing and singing along with the song. I let out a small laugh at the sight of the smile on her face. Soon enough, I also join in. We go through a few songs before arriving at a convenience store. We unbuckle and head in, arms brushing each other as we push through the doors. I hold it for her, and she gives a breathless laugh as she steps in.

The smell of sweets and snacks hit us. Y/N looks back at me, a question in her eyes.

"Go ahead. Get whatever you'd like. It's on me," I flash her a smile, and she disappears between the aisles. I stand at the end of the aisle and peek over. She looks at the chips, her hand at her chin.

"Hyunjin~" she calls me over in a sing-song voice.

"What's up?"

She looks at me and then at the chips. "Which one should I get?" I look at the chips and then at her.

"The cheapest ones," I say to her jokingly. She laughs and then hits my shoulder.

"Shut up and be serious with me." I laugh back and mockingly nudge her on the shoulder.

"I'm serious. Get the cheapest ones. I don't feel like using my money on you." She rolls her eyes and grabs a bag of chips without looking at the price. We walk to the cashier, and she moves to the side so I can pay.

After I'm done paying, she grabs her chips, sticking her tongue out at me like a child. We exit the store and climb back into the car. We sit there eating one of the small packs of gummies I bought for myself. We finish and then she recommends that we go walk in a park for a while. I look at the time on my watch and then sigh.

*'We have some time to kill before I want to take her to the tower.'*

I look back at her and smile. "Sure, why not?" I say while starting the engine.

"Keep driving until I say stop." She says. I drive until we reach the nearby playground. "Stop here." I stop and park the car on the side and we both get out.

"Why did you-" my sentence gets cut halfway by Y/N pulling me to the playground that has no children on or around it. She drags me to the play structure while laughing. She stops in front of it, and I copy. She then quickly taps my shoulder.

"Tag." She jolts towards the structure, running up the small set of stairs. It takes me a second to process what she had just pulled, but the moment I get it...I bolt after her in laughter.

*— 4:50pm —*

We climb back into the car after playing tag on the playground like little kids and sitting on the swings, talking like we did back in high school. She reaches down into the black plastic bag that sits at her feet on the floor. She pulls out her drink that she also bought (I'm guessing because I didn't buy it for her). She struggles to open it, so I reach over, offering my help. As soon as I grab it, she opens it up. It bursts open, half of the drink spraying onto her.

"OH SHIT!" she yells. The juice drips down her shirt. She starts grabbing napkins and patting it in the area where the juice spilled. The patting doesn't help; there's are splash stains all over the shirt.

"Don't move. I have a spare hoodie in the back." I reach into the backseat and pull out my black hoodie.

"Why do you have a hoodie just resting in the backseat?" I give her a look and then I shove the hoodie in her face.

"Just put it on. It's not that hard." Just like that, she puts the hoodie on over the stained shirt and then takes off the shirt from the inside. Once she's done doing so she takes the stained shirt out from inside the hoodie and places it inside the plastic bag I'm holding out for her.

"You better take your shit home. I'm not washing that for you." She slaps my arm and I tie up the bag and toss it into the backseat.

"Shut up." She leans back in her seat and goes on her phone as I start the car. I look down to my watch and I see that it's already 4:53.

*'Fuck, we're gonna be late.'* I look over to her.

"Buckle up dumbass." She rolls her eyes and then grabs the seatbelt to secure herself.

*— 5:13pm —*

By the time we get there, the sun has dipped below the horizon. I sigh.

'*I guess we'll just have to miss it this time. Next time...I know next time I'll be able to show her the sunset.'*

I park the car and look over to the passenger seat. She's asleep. I don't want to wake her up, but I really want to bring her to the top. Her chest slowly rises up and down while letting out small snores. I chuckle at the sight of her. I place my hand on her shoulder and gently shake her awake. Her eyes flutter open and she looks around, clearly confused about her surroundings.

"Don't worry. You're fine, just get out of the car." I say. I unbuckle, and she copies. We get out and I grab her hand, pulling her forward. She stops walking with her mouth slightly ajar.

"NAMSAN TOWER?!" she exclaims.

"Yes, Namsan Tower. Why? Were you expecting something else?" She stays quiet, so I continue to pull. When we reach the top, it's already well past sunset.

*'Damn, I knew I should have taken the short cut,'* I say to myself, just a little disappointed because I came here specifically for the way the sunset looks from up here. Golden hour would have looked so pretty from up here. No, Y/N from up here would have looked so pretty. I feel someone slap my shoulder, and then I hear her laughter, which makes a smile spread across my face as well. I raise my hands up, threatening to hit her back while laughing too.

"Why did you bring me up here?" Y/N asks, obviously curious why I drove around so much. I look at her and bring her to the edge where the rail is.

"Look over." She does exactly that, and her eyes soften, her mouth slowly opens in awe. I look at what she's also looking at. The entire city. Filled with lights all over. The distant muffled sounds of people and cars down below moving around. She lets out a sigh and closes her eyes, just letting the aroma sink in. Once she opens her eyes, she looks back at me and smiles. I return her happiness. She looks back to the city.

"It's so pretty. I never realized how pretty the city looks like from up here," she whispers, the lights reflecting in her eyes. I keep my eyes fixed on her. I don't need to look anywhere else but at her.

"You're right. It's pretty," I say, clearly not even looking at the lights. The city and its lights are nothing compared to her. Her beauty can and will outdo anything in this world. I study her small features from her side profile, so beautiful. My heart is pounding.

*'How can one be so beautiful? How is any of this possible?'*
