Staying at my house on weekends sucks the most. Not like I like attending boring lectures but at least I was away from this toxic family drama. I don't even like engineering and I took that course just cause of my dad. And now my Sunday morning starts with maths or with my dad and mom's arguments.
"Mia let Mom know I am going out with my friends," My brother says as he wears his socks. "Seriously? Again? David, you went just 2 days ago." I say, getting pissed off because he is going out a lot with his friends instead of saving money. "Yeah so? I'll do whatever I want. I don't wanna ruin my youth because of our family."
He storms out of the house with that. He is 3 years older than me, and due to my uncle's betrayal my dad lost his job and we have debts to pay. Instead of earning money, he spends it as if he is rich and acts like a spoilt brat.
Actually, he is a spoiled brat. "Where's your brother?" My mom asks me as she sits in front of me on the couch. "Hanging out. Again." I said as I solved another question. "Oh. He should, he is young. Anyways go and make lunch, your dad went out and will be back in noon." She orders me and like a good young daughter, I follow her orders. Pathetic I know. But sometimes you should be. It might help you in the future.
"Also" I stood up from the couch when my mom said, "We are going out for dinner, so get ready and wear something nice, also took a nice bath. I don't want you to smell like a rag." She said as she scrolled smth on her phone.
"I am going too? That's new." I said sarcastically and actually ran away. I act like a good daughter and that doesn't mean I can't be sarcastic.
After cooking lunch, I took a nice long bath after that I actually took a nap. It was actually peaceful at my house. I don't know but my parents are actually being nice to me today and I know they are up to something.
Wrapping my body in my lavender dress that ends somewhere near my knees, making braids in my hair, and styling it with white sandals I came downstair my brother wasn't attending the dinner as he said he was busy with his friends. My mom was wearing her favorite black dress so was my dad. He was wearing the suit he only wore when he used to attend meetings with my uncle.
My uncle, Ryan, and my dad both started a business and it was my dad who made the investment the most it was all going well until my grandpa died. Exactly 1 month after my grandpa's death my uncle sold the company to some other group and shook their hands in business leaving my dad all alone.
After that, my dad tried to work at others but they threw him out because my dad got addicted to alcohol. And my mom doesn't want to work anywhere as her skin might become dull and all.
They argue every day on this and my brother stays out half of the time so it's only me who's sane in this family. They never liked me. My parents.
"You better behave tonight," My dad said as we got out of the taxi. We weren't at a normal restaurant. "Just walk without asking any questions." My dad said as he looked at my face. I do wanna ask why are we here but okay.
"Hello, we have a reservation under Vincent DeLucci," My dad said to the receptionist. "You must be Mr. Smith, here sir follow me." So we are having dinner with someone. Okay. I am used to having dinner with my uncle's client as he always used to invite me, unlike my dad. And that's why my dad hates me more.
We entered the reserved room, I am sure it's a 5-star restaurant. As I looked around there was an old age man, Older than my dad, and a woman, looked like she was in her 40's maybe?
"Mr. Smith, welcome, I am glad you could make it tonight." He laughed as he shook hands with my dad and signaled us to sit. "Haha, how can I miss the dinner with you Mr. DeLucci?" My dad said as he took the seat.
The woman just smiled at my parents and then her eyes became fixed at me. I smiled at her so did she yet she was staring at me.
"Lavender suits you," She said bringing me out of my thoughts. "Thank you, mam. But actually, I would suggest you wear more dark colors." Great, I earned stares from my parents and an unknowing glance from that old man. "I am so sorry, I-" Before I could say something she cut me off and said, "No don't be sorry, I am glad you are being honest." She said as she smiled at me. Meanwhile, my mom looked at me as if she was going to kill me tonight after dinner. "I like her" the woman said to her husband as she looked at me and him back. I smiled at her and drank the water to cool myself down.
"So Mia, I heard from your father you are in college" I looked at him as he said, "Oh my apologies, I am Vincent DeLucci." He introduced himself and smiled at me. "I am Mia Smith sir, an-"
"Oh don't call me sir, you are like my daughter." He cut me off and corrected me. "Oh, okay, yes I am in college, pursuing engineering and I am in my 3rd year." He looked at me in shock and said, "Engineering? Girls don't usually like that I thought." He looked at my dad and back at me, "Yes, but it's fine, sometimes we should be different from people." I said as I smiled at him and his wife.
"Oh, I am Eleanor." She introduced herself and added, "You have a good eye for fashion though and I like your aura too." She again complimented me and actually, it made me feel good.
"Thank you Mrs. DeLucci. Even I like your and Mr. Delucci's vibes." They laughed at my comment and actually seemed impressed by me. My dad and Mr. Delucci chatted as the food was served. It was a lot honestly.
"Dig in dear, and if you want something else you can order. Eat well hmm?" She said to me as she served me food on my plate. She actually seemed like a kind person, my mom never served me on my plates like this. The door again opened, maybe another waiter, I had my first bite of food and looked up. My dad was standing and my mom looked at me.
"Sit here son, I am glad you joined us." My dad said to the tall figure, as I looked at it, moving my eyes from Dad, we had an eye contact and he broke it as he looked at his parents.
"This is Mia, I told you about her this morning." Mrs. DeLuccni said as she looked at me and back at his son. "And Mia, this is my older son, Adrien." I looked at him and smiled only to get nothing. He maintained his poker face and nodded. "Son you should sit near her so that you guys can get to each other." Mr. DeLuccni said more like an order, and he stood up and sat next to me and let out an angry sigh.
Why they are acting so weird though? It's not like I want to get to know him. Honestly, I didn't say anything and ate my second bite, ignoring his presence.
"Are you here to eat?" He said, more like a whisper, as he took out his phone and scrolled. "Of course I am," I said as I took another bite and looked at Mrs. DeLuccni. "No phones on the table that's our rule. Did you forget them?" Mr. Luccni said as he looked at him and his phone. I let out a chuckle and hid it but it didn't go unnoticed by Adrien.
As he started eating I looked at him and smirked, he is here for eating too, isn't he? Huh
"Mr Smith, did you fix a date?" He asked my dad and looked at me and back again at my dad. "Not yet, we thought first you both should meet and then you can let me know what you want," Dad said as he looked at Mr. Deluccni and then Adrien. "Date for what?" I asked as everyone made me feel like they were discus- "Our engagement, sweetheart." WHAT? What the heck he is saying?
I looked at my Mom and then dad, and then him. "Engagement?" He nodded as my dad spoke but I cut him off. "I am not engaging to anyone" I stood up as I said. "Sit down Mia." My mom said as she looked at me. "No, I am just 23, you can't fix my engagement, Mom," I said as I looked at everyone. "No one is giving you the choice, Mia." My dad said he was angry. I don't give a damn fuck right now.
"What do you mean I don't have a choice? I am an adult dad." This was the second time I spoke back to my dad, the last time was when I was 8 and he gave me punishment for it which left a deep mark on my heart as well as on my body.
"We are helping your family, with your financial condition and in return we have you, so I suggest you sit down sweetheart." Seriously? "Don't call me that and I am not a deal. You can't just sell me like this dad, I am your daughter." My dad stood up grabbed my wrist and dragged me outside.
