The Surgeon and the Cursed Girl (Law x OC)

A Day out

5 4 3 2 1.  Five years since my last death. Four years since joining Law’s crew. Three months since I told my best friend. Two times I fell in love. One week since I nearly told him. 

Opening her eyes, Nyxia wakes up to Bepo shaking her awake, his expression worried.
“Ny Ny, wake up! Captain is looking for you.” Bepo says, calling me the nickname he gave me.
“I'm up Bepo. Don’t worry. What does the Captain want?” Nyxia asks, sitting up and stretching.
“He wants an update on the DNA we found.”
“Alright, I'll be there in a few.”
Bepo leaves the room and Nyxia gets dressed, tossing on tan pants, a green long sleeve turtleneck and black boots. She exits her room after putting her hair in a ponytail. She gets to her lab and goes in. Law stands by her work table, his expression vacant.
“Hello Captain. Bepo said you wanted an update?”Nyxia says, her voice tired.
“Yes I did. I take it you just woke up?” Law responds, his voice matching his expression.
Nyxia nods before looking at her notes, “The DNA came from a 30 year old female who had been at sea for a long time. She doesn't possess a devil fruit. It likely came from a fight and was at least a day old when you found it.”
“I see. Alright then. Help prepare the ship for port. We are coming up on an island. We’ll be there soon to restock on supplies,” Law tells her as he leaves the room.
“Yes sir, ”Nyxia responds.
She starts setting her area up for going above sea. Looking at where Law was standing she notices a cup of iced coffee sitting there. She was mostly the only one who drank iced coffee. The others didn't drink it as much. Law must have left it for her. Nyxia has a warm feeling in her chest as she looks to the door. After a few moments she looks back and takes the coffee, drinking it as she helped prep the ship. She meets up with Penguin and Bepo as they ascend.
“Hey Nyxia!” Penguin calls out, seeing emerge from the hallway.
She nods in greeting, “How are you doing?”
“Bepo and I got stuck with cleaning duty so we have to stay on the ship,”Penguin says miserably.
“You two did try to steal a baby alligator and sneak it onto the ship at the last island,” Nyxia reminds them.
“Yeah but Ny Ny, it was so cute!”Bepo defends.
“Be that as it may, it’s a pretty mundane punishment. At least you're not scrubbing with a toothbrush,” Nyxia offers as both boys shudder and shake their heads at the thought.
“Thankfully no toothbrushes are involved,”Penguin says.
“So what are you going to do in town?”Bepo asks.
Nyxia thinks for a moment before answering with, “I’ll probably do some shopping. I've got some personal things that I need to restock on.”
“Like what?”Penguin asks.
“Just some girl stuff,”Nyxia says, not admitting that it was pads and tampons that she needed.
“You're not going to tell us are you?” Bepo asks, his face a little droopy.
“Nope, but don't worry. I’ll bring something back for you guys.” Nyxia assured them.
“Okay,”Penguin pouts.
“Hey Nyxia, come here real quick.” A familiar feminine voice calls out.
Nyxia turns to see Katalyn, a short girl with red hair, green eyes and freckles all over her face. Katalyn is the only other girl on the ship and Nyxia’s best friend.
“Hey Kat, what's up?” Nyxia asks as she walks over and away from Penguin and Bepo.
“Can we go shopping together today? I'm out of Shark Week supplies.” Katalyn asks in a hushed voice.
“Of course, besides I am too.” Nyxia confirms.
“Ok good. Then we can talk about girl stuff.”Katalyn says. “We don't get to do that much.”
Nyxia nodded in agreement. After talking for a bit with Katalyn, she goes to her room and grabs her wallet and the money she had budgeted for her next stop at an island. She grabs her butterfly knife. Thinking that it might be better than carrying her halberd.
As they ascend Nyxia meets up with Katalyn and waits until they have the go ahead from their captain. When Law gives the go ahead, the girls make a B-Line for the nearest cafe.
They find a cozy place about two blocks from the Marina. The interior is a warm tan and there is comfortable seating all around. As the approach the counter a young woman looks up, her blonde hair tied into a bun.
“Hi, what can I get for you?” The young lady asks.
“Regular chai please.” Katalyn responds.
“Just an iced caramel for me please,”Nyxia adds.
“Alrighty, your total is 4.50.” The young lady says.
Nyxia pays for it and the girls take a seat in a booth by the window that faces a flower shop. Their drinks come soon after and the girls start chatting.
“Sooo…. Anything new?” Katalyn asks.
“I almost told him around a week ago.”Nyxia says, looking into her cup.
“And?....”
“And, I didn’t. I got scared.”
Katalyn makes an annoyed face, “Girl, you have to tell him at some point.”
“Kat, this is Law we are talking about. Besides, I dont think I'm his type.”
“What do you mean? Your a badass woman who is super fucking smart.”
“I don't think he likes chubby girls. Also, the curse.”
Katalyn is the only person on the ship who knows about Nyxia’s curse and also her massive crush on Law, their captain.
"Chica, I don’t think you have anything to worry about. You're the only person he takes coffee to.”
“Kat, I don't think that is enough to say.”
“Fair enough. But anything else?”
Nyxia grows quiet, her expression darkening.
“You're having the nightmare’s again aren’t you?” Katalyn says, putting her hands over Nyxia’s.
“Yeah. It's the one where I froze,”Nyxia replies.
“You're scared that you might get murdered again by someone you love?” Katalyn asks. “ You know Law isn’t that type of person. If you two started dating he wouldn't hurt you.”
“I know, but…..”
“But because of the nightmare, you are still scared.”
“Yep.”
There are a few moments of silence before Katalyn stands up. Nyxia looks up at her confused.
“Come on, I'm not gonna let you stay sad. We are going shopping.”
Nyxia softly smiles and stands. They leave the cafe and go to the nearest department store. Their first stop was at the pharmacy area. The immediately go to the women's health sections.
“Please tell me they have my pads,”Katalyn whines.
“They do, see, look,”Nyxia pointed to the correct pads before grabbing what she needed.
They check out and pay before leaving the store. After a quick discussion they decide to go to a clothing store. They walk in and look around. Nyxia focuses more on jewelry and jackets, while Katalyn checks out the shirts. As she is browsing, Nyxia hears the snickering of several other customers. This is nothing new and frankly she doesn't care. Nyxia finds a set of earrings that she likes and picks them out from the rack. She also finds a red wool sweater that she likes and is in her size.
She meets back up with Katalyn and they head to the counter. Before they get their two girls approach them. One is a miniskirt and a white tank top, the other is jeans and a pink crop top.
“You aren’t welcome here.” Miniskirt girl says, crossing her arms.
“Why not? We are just minding our own business,” Katalyn asks.
“You are girly, but she isn't.” Crop top girl carify’s pointing to Nyxia.
“Ahh, you're that group of people. Well I don't feel like wasting my brain cells, do you?” Nyxia asks Katalyn.
“Nope. Wanna pay for our stuff and go to the arcade? I'm in the mood for pinball,” Katalyn responds.
“Yes! I haven't played pinball in so long.” Nyxia says excitedly.
Ignoring the two, Katalyn and Nyxia pay for their items and leave. They go to the nearby arcade and make a beeline for the pinball machines.
“You know, what song does this remind me of?” Katalyn asks.
“What?”
“Pinball wizard.”
“Oh jeez,” Nyxia laughs.
They girls float around playing different games before deciding to head back to the ship. They each got a couple of prizes. Nyxia with a rubber penguin and a bear plushie, Katalyn with a couple key chains.
As they approach the ship, Law is waiting for them.
“Did you two have fun?” Law asks curiously.
“I did, I got this really pretty shirt.”Katalyn says.
“I had fun too.” Nyxia follows up, “How was your trip to the town.”
“I mostly focused on getting supplies for the ship.” Law replies.
They talk for a few more minutes before Law retreats to his office. Nyxia goes and finds Penguin and Bepo.
“Penguin, Bepo, I got something for you guys!”
“Oh, what is it?”Penguin asks.
“I got you a Penguin and Bepo, here is a plushie.” Nyxia hands them the items.
“Thank you Ny Ny!” Bepo says as the both of them run off with their gifts.
Nyxia goes to her room, putting her things away and restocking her Shark Week supplies. She quietly sings to herself until she’s done, after that she goes to the mess hall for dinner. By this point they were out at sea.
Nyxia sits next to Katalyn and Bepo, across from Law. The crew chats amongst themselves, with Nyxia glancing at Law every once in a while.
“Hey Ny Ny, what did you and Katalyn do in town?” Bepo asks.
“Oh, we got some coffee at the local coffee shop,and chatted for a bit. I did some shopping and then had some fun at the arcade,” Nyxia responds.
“ She beat me at pinball twice,” Katalyn says, smiling.
“ She got the people to play the song pinball wizard,” Nyxia laughs.
“ Pinball wizard?! Really!” Penguin says incredulously. “ That song is so old.”
“I know right!” Nyxia agrees.
Conversations continue and last for an hour or so. Nyxia eats her fill before going to bed. Bepo knocks on her door after a few minutes.
“Ny  Ny, do you want to join us in truth or dare?” Bepo asks.
“Sure, give me just a sec.” Nyxia responds. 
When she’s done changing into leggings and a sports bra, Nyxia joins them. She sits on the ground on the edge of the circle next to Katalyn.
“ Hey girl, are you joining us?” Katalyn asked.
“ Yeah, Bepo asked if I wanted to join and I said yes.” Nyxia responds.
“ Well, let's get this started!” Bepo says.
Penguin spins the bottle and it lands on Law.
“ Captain I dare you…..to kiss……..Nyxia!” Penguin shouts.
The room is silent waiting for something to happen. Nyxia turns towards Law, her hands folded in her lap.
“I’m not playing anymore..”
