The night was a shroud of melancholy, a tapestry woven with threads of sorrow and love that no eye could untangle. Alexander, with the weight of the world upon his shoulders, gently enveloped Jeenine in the warmth of her duvet, his fingers trembling as he caressed her forehead. The soft, golden tendrils of her hair framed her delicate features, the dim light casting an ethereal glow upon her angelic face.

Jeenine, fragile and yet resilient, reached out for him, their hands connecting in a silent plea. "I know you are angry at me the most," she whispered, her voice as tender as the petals of a fragile rose. "And I also know that you are not the cold, condescending person you are pretending to be in front of Beth."

With a heavy sigh, Alexander lowered himself onto the edge of the bed, his eyes a reflection of the storm within his soul. "You expect too much from me these days," he murmured, his voice heavy with the weight of his emotions. "This urge of yours to be an angel and do no harm but good to everyone has blinded you to my pain."

A sad smile played upon his lips, and he continued, his voice a fragile thread of vulnerability. "Why am I subjected to this humanity of yours that is depriving me of the peace and happiness I have with you now for one I might not even have in the so-called future that you have sold me so selfishly for?"

A single tear traced a delicate path down his cheek, glistening like a precious gem in the dim light. His gaze locked with Jeenine's, finding her eyes already brimming with tears. "I am sorry, Alex," she whispered through her own tears. "I love you, and I am dying. I just... You'll be happy. You'll be happier. I know it. I know it, I know..."

Hushing her gently, Alexander brushed a thumb against her cheek. "Shhh... It's okay. Sleep, love. Sleep. Please." He called for the night nurse, who had been their silent guardian throughout this journey, and left the room to clear his head.

As he walked down the corridor, the mansion's grandeur seemed to have faded, its opulence nothing more than a mere backdrop to the silent drama unfolding within. He reached the grand entrance and, without a word, stepped into the night, leaving the stately mansion behind.

The moon was a mere sliver in the night sky, and the darkness seemed to envelop him as he stood there, lost in thought. His heart ached, torn between the love he held for Jeenine and the weight of her impending departure. The night was his only confidante, the silent witness to his inner turmoil.

His gaze wandered to a distant window, one that belonged to Beth's room. The room was shrouded in darkness, but her silhouette was unmistakable. It was a testament to the shared agony that gripped their hearts, the pain they both bore in their own ways. He couldn't help but wonder what was transpiring behind those curtains, what thoughts were tormenting Beth as they were him.

With a heavy heart, Alexander retreated to his car, the engine roaring to life as he sped away from the Wright premises. The tires screeched in protest as he navigated the winding driveway, and the mansion, with all its grandeur, disappeared into the distance.

The road ahead was long, winding, and uncertain, much like the path their lives had taken. Alexander's thoughts were a tempest of emotions, the love for Jeenine, the guilt he felt for his own desires, and the torment of knowing he would soon be without her. The night held secrets, and as he drove into the obscurity, he yearned for some form of solace, for a moment of respite from the storm that raged within.

Alexander's car wound through the labyrinthine roads of the countryside, the obsidian night enshrouding him in solitude. The scent of wet earth and the sound of crickets filled the air, a stark contrast to the heaviness he carried within. Memories of Jeenine flooded his mind, like sepia-toned photographs in an old album, each one a testament to their love.
