Chapter 8: The Upside Down
☆Waking up to pain in my side, I groaned as I sat up. The dim lightning seemed too bright, further worsening my headache. The ringing in my ears slowly subsided the more I took my surroundings in.
I was laying on the hard floor of a library. Vines surrounded me but wouldn't dare to get too close.
The realisation dawned upon me as I suddenly stood up, slightly swaying on my feet. I looked around for the familiar brown hair but couldn't find him.
"Will? Will!" I helplessly spun around in circles, panicking when no response echoed through the halls. My breathing laboured and my lungs caved in on me.
I was about to go further into the library before I heard a faint footsteps, barely audible. They didn't seem like footsteps of the monster so I ran to the nearest window to see two people in yellow spacesuit type of attire.
What were they doing here it's too dangerous. Before going to confront them I held my hand in front of me before willing my powers to work. A small fire appeared in my palm. I let out a sigh of relief and mustered courage to open the front doors of the building.
The wood painfully screeched as it was pushed open. The two people defensively raised their guns at me and I raised my hands in fake surrender. I took the moment to analyse their faces. They were a tall man and a short woman.
The man seemed shocked to see me while the woman looked at me attentively.
I took a closer look at the woman's face and recognised her eyes immediately.
"Are you Will's mother?" My voice seemed to click something in her memory.
"Oh dear!" She exclaimed and ran up to me. I stumbled when she engulfed me in a tight hug. I awkwardly hugged her back.
"Who is she?" The man asked, clearly confused.
"She was there with Will" The woman said. I assume 'there' she means in Eleven's subconscious space but as long as it made him lower his weapon I couldn't care less how she introduced me.
"Do you know where Will is?" The man asked. I shook my head and Will's mother let out a shaky breath and I could see tears gathering in her eyes. My heart broke for the woman and guilt threatened to swallow me whole.
"Ok, have you checked the whole building?" The man questioned once again. I once again shook my head 'no' and pulled away from the mother's embrace to enter the library.
