It’s been three months since Vaani and Unnati left Delhi. Without them, our house doesn’t feel like home anymore. To move forward, Shivank and I bought a house together—a duplex, with Vaani and Shivank living downstairs after their wedding, and Unnati and I on the top floor. Life, for now, seems to be moving smoothly.
Vaani and Unnati have even started a cupcake business together in Somnath. Everything is set to move back here to Delhi as soon as Vaani and Shivank tie the knot.
And Unnati—she is healing.
She’s doing better now, stronger than she was that night, the night everything changed. But the scars of that day run deep.
It was two days after Rakshabandhan when Unnati took a pregnancy test. She found out she was pregnant again. For the second time.
The first time she was pregnant was a year ago, during our first year of marriage. This time, after two years, she was filled with hope again. She was glowing with happiness, and for the first time in months, I saw her truly smile. We were on cloud nine, and she was so eager to share the news with Vaani that she almost ran to their house right away.
But I stopped her. “Let’s confirm it first,” I said, holding her close. “At least let’s wait to hear the heartbeat before we tell anyone.”
The next morning, we were at the doctor’s office. Nervous and excited, we sat hand in hand as the doctor prepared the ultrasound. I could feel her fingers trembling in mine, so I gave her a reassuring nod. She looked at me, smiled softly, and turned her eyes to the screen.
