A loud splash.
A body plunged into the deep sea. A girl in a blue hospital gown sank further and further, her limbs weightless, her mouth stuffed—gasping, struggling to breathe in water, to do something utterly impossible.
Her eyes widened as she fought against the pull, her hands reaching, pushing, trying to break free from the pressure. But the deeper she fell, the worse it became. Darkness surrounded her, swallowing her whole.
Vaani.
She tried again. And again. But nothing worked. Nothing changed. She kept sinking into something she wasn't ready to face.
Her movements slowed. Her lungs burned. Her mind screamed.
And then—she gave up.
Vaani woke up with a violent jerk. Her breaths came fast, uneven, filling the otherwise silent room, punctuated only by the rhythmic beeping of the monitor beside her. Her chest rose and fell, her body trembling. She blinked, searching the empty space around her.
