His beautiful lips curved into a snarl, as he folded his arms over his chest, “And you are a human.” I shivered as he ran his eyes over me from head to toe, “A human with lots of audacity from the looks of it. What on earth are you doing here?”
“My…my name is Morgana.” I whispered, and cleared my throat, hating how scared I sounded.
“Morgana. Did you know that the last human who came here was hung on our spine while the elders chose the part of his body that they would eat for breakfast?”
I shivered and almost gasped, but I saw the hint of amusement in his eyes and figured he was just messing with my head.
“Uhm, I am sorry to disturb your territory, my lord,” I curtsied, “But I came seeking the dragon's aid.”
“Since when did we start doing the Human's dirty work for them?” He demanded, his voice low and dangerous as he took a step forward.
My heart pounded in my chest, and I could feel the weight of his words pressing down on me.
I had to steel myself because I could not blow this.
“King Xandrius, I came because I had no other choice. There's no one to help me out.
The werewolves have taken our family's bookstore, and…and…" I swallowed, to suppress the sob in my chest, "they took my sisters away. They kidnapped my sisters."I could feel the tears welling up in my eyes, but I fought to keep them at bay. My gaze remained fixed on the Dragon, hoping that he would see the sincerity in my plea and understand the gravity of our situation.
Xandrius chuckled low in his throat and took another step towards me until he was standing just a few inches away from me.
I could feel his hot breath fanning across my cheek and sending shivers down my spine.
“And what makes you think that I want to help you out, Morgana? “ He whispered, tilting his head.
I averted my eyes from his gaze because the way he was staring at me…like he could eat me alive right there…. Like I was a meal.
“I…I don't know, Your Lordship,” I murmured, and he chuckled again.
He was mocking me. He seemed to be finding joy in toying with me.
Anger grew in me despite the fear I felt at that point, but at the same time, I was relieved a little bit because so far, he wasn't as ruthless and merciless as the rumors painted them to be.
At least for now…I'm not seeing that.
Doesn't make the rumors a lie.“Every creature has a heart,” I reminded myself.
“The whole title thing isn't necessary, honey. Just call me Xandrius.” He said, and I swallowed, nodding.
“Okay.”
Xandrius, though still stern, walked around me, as I stood still like a ram under some sort of examination
. “A human in need, seeking the dragons' aid. It's a rare sight, indeed. Tell me everything, Morgana. Hold nothing back.”
With a deep breath, I began to narrate our tale.
“Thorian was my boyfriend. He is a werewolf, and he found his mate a few days ago. He…uhm, gave me an offer, and when I turned him down, he took away our store in spite, burnt down our storing house and…took away my sisters”
He regarded me with a scrutinizing gaze, as if contemplating what to say to me.
“What was the offer?”
I licked my lips, “he asked me to be his mistress in secret and have his pups while he lives happily with his mate.”
Xandrius released a string of curses, “damn wolves have always been despicable Creatures.”
I bit my lip still waiting for his verdict, while praying that he would find it in his heart, if he had one, to offer me the assistance I so desperately needed.
A tense silence hung in the air.
His expression remained stern, and I braced myself for his response. When he finally spoke, his voice held a cold and dismissive tone.“I am sorry sweet, but I'm not a loyal puppy, who you can run to whenever you want to fight your battles for you,” he declared, his eyes unwavering. “And I want nothing to do with the werewolves.”
My heart sank as his words echoed through my mind.
Desperation gnawed at me, and I knew I had to do something, anything, to change his mind. As I turned to leave, I felt the gravity of our predicament pulling me down, forcing me to my knees.
“Please,” I pleaded, my voice quivering as I knelt before him. “I have nothing left. My sisters are in Thorian's mercy and I can't bear to think what he would do to them. He's going to force them into being his mistresses.
" I beg you, Xandrius, I know I'm not supposed to come here, I know I'm not supposed to be here, but I'm a desperate human and the dragons are my last hope. I will do anything…please help me out."
The Dragon Prince's gaze bore into me, "Honey, why should I care if your world is falling apart? What makes it your business?"
My heart broke at his words and my shoulders sagged, “I guess because I've heard that the dragons value their families more than anything."He cocked his head to the side, with an amused smile, "But you are not my family now, are you?"
"I realize I'm not. However, you understand what family means. Imagine any of your brothers being in such a situation?"
The amusement in his eyes vanished, replaced by anger immediately and I bowed my head in fear.
"Are you trying to emotionally blackmail me, little human?"
"I dare not." I responded and he said nothing.
Desperate, I pressed on, "Coming here, I contemplated the fact that I might not leave alive, but I had to take the risk. However, even if you desire to kill me and eat me for dinner…please save my sisters first and I'll completely be at your mercy."
He chuckled, "I could keep you at my mercy and still decide not to save you. I don't bargain…especially not with a human who is too brave for her own good."
I bit my lip but didn't say a word.
"Go home and sort out your issues yourself, before I change my mind and rip your head off that pretty neck of yours."
I lowered my forehead on the floor just before his legs, sobbing.
"Please have mercy. I'm willing to give my life in return, please save my sisters."
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, he spoke, his voice low, “I have heard rumors about your father. The man who built a connection. He's a brave man. In fact, he served my brother and I tea once.”
I looked up at him, surprised, and holding my breath, hoping…just hoping that it would mean something to him.
“And I see you got that bravery from him. I applaud your courage coming here, although it could have gotten you killed if it was my brothers that found you instead."
He paused again, and my heart kept racing frantically in my chest.
Thudding.“I will help you, Morgana,” he muttered, and I sighed in relief, but he wasn't done, “but only under one condition.”
A condition?
I tensed with unease, not knowing what to expect.
What does he want?Of course, I'd do anything to get the store back.
Anything except selling my soul.
Even my late dad would not have wanted that.“I will take your offer. I will help you, and in return…You become mine…for the rest of your life."
