The first part of Marshall and Everest's story begins on the first day of Marshall's Junior year and Everest's Sophomore year. They first meet on the bus heading to school and Marshall starts a conversation with her. But Marshall admits that Everest is cute so soon they go on a date. Then we find out that Everest's father is cruel, and an abuser towards Everest and Gracie, her mother. So Marshall takes her in and in the end of the first chapter of their lives together Marshall gets Everest pregnant.
