Freddie, Brian, Roger and John were laughing and joking around as they walked back to the studio in the rain. They just had a little break and Freddie treated them all to ice cream, but the typical British weather took a turn for the worse.
Just then, Freddie stopped in his tracks. His expression turned to that of excitement, and he even ended up dropping his ice cream. The band were very confused.
"Freddie, what's wrong?" Brian asked.
"You've dropped your ice cream." Roger stated.
"Who cares about ice cream?" Freddie exclaimed. "Look!"
There, in a cardboard box, was a kitten snuggled in a blanket. It was black and white with blue eyes and it looked like it was freezing.
"Poor thing." John said. "Should we bring it with us?"
"Don't you dare encourage him!" Roger hissed. "You know what he gets like with cats."
"But Roger-"
Freddie picked up the kitten, still wrapped in the blanket, and cuddled it. It purred as he sheltered it under the umbrella he and John were stood under.
"Sorry Freddie, I think Roger has a point." Brian chuckled. "But I agree with John, we can't let it freeze to death."
"So can we bring it back to the studio?" Freddie asked.
"Yes, but you can't keep it, you've already got nine at home."
"I'm sure I can handle one more."
"You've said that every time!" Roger said. "You're going to take it to the shelter tomorrow morning."
"Roger is right." John spoke up. "It's the best thing for it."
Freddie nodded sadly, held the cat close to his chest and walked on. John had to walk a little quicker to keep up with him. Brian and Roger just laughed as Freddie talked to his new feline friend.
Back at the studio, the band played with the cat, which they eventually called Queenie, and actually grew quite attached to it.
"It's such a pretty kitty." John cooed.
"She's a very pretty little one." Freddie agreed as he came in with treats for her.
"How do you know she's a girl?" John asked, knowing the answer.
"Roger had a look, the silly thing." Freddie laughed as he picked up Queenie and fed her the treats.
"The stupid cat scratched me!" Roger said dramatically.
"I don't blame her, you weren't being very gentle." Brian said. "Now let me put this bandage on you or you'll be complaining that the cat gave you an infection next."
"She would never!" Freddie said. "Would you Queenie?"
Queenie meowed at Roger, probably complaining that he had just checked her down there like he was some vet.
That night, as the band parted ways, Freddie agreed to take Queenie with him for the night. He wanted to spend every last moment with her before he had to take her to the shelter the next day.
As he laid in bed, Freddie stroked Queenie lovingly. He didn't want to send her away, but he knew deep in his heart that it was for the best.
"You've got a big day tomorrow, Queenie." He said. "We both must get some sleep."
As he put her in one of Delilah's old cat beds that she had grown out of and turned off the lamp he whispered, "Till tomorrow, my love."

The next day came far too quickly for Freddie. That morning, all he did was spoil Queenie. He gave her treats and played with her and the other cats. The band decided to take her to the shelter that afternoon.
As the band drove to the shelter, John stroked Queenie as Freddie held her close. Roger sat in the front with Brian, who was driving.
"My darling Queenie, please don't forget us. Even Roger."
"She's a cat, Freddie." Roger laughed. "And it's not like she's going to miss me."
Brian elbowed him in the side. He knew how much Freddie wanted to keep Queenie, and he didn't want Roger to make things any harder.
"Roger, she might've forgiven you."
When they arrived, Brian talked to the man at the desk while the rest of the guys said goodbye.
"Goodbye Queenie, be safe out there." John said as he stroked her back.
"It's just a cat, it's just a cat." Freddie kept whispering as he gave Queenie one last cuddle.
Roger wrapped his arm around him and, to everyone's surprise, started tearing up.
"Roger, just ten minutes ago you said Queenie was just a cat!" Brian remarked.
"What? I've grown attached."
"Roger, there's only room in this band for one hysterical queen." Freddie laughed.
The group all laughed, their eyes filling with tears. They weren't sure wether it was from sadness or happiness, maybe it was a mix of both.
They finally said goodbye to Queenie. The man was about to take her away when Freddie stopped him.
"Goodbye my love." He said. "Never forget us, will you?"
Queenie meowed in response. Freddie kissed her on the nose and that was it. She was gone. The other three were silent. Roger wiped his eyes and Brian rubbed his back.
"Freddie?" John asked.
"Come on." He replied. "Let's go."
The others looked at each other and followed their friend back to the car.
"Are you alright?" Brian asked Freddie.
Freddie was sat in the front where Roger had been before. He quickly turned away from Brian and wiped his eyes before smiling.
"Never been better."
"You miss her already?"
"Yeah." Freddie said. "But if she's happy, I'm happy."
They all knew how right he was. Even though Queenie wasn't with them now, she would be even happier with her new forever family.

Hello my darlings! Hope you enjoy this blast from the past, it originally featuring in my Queen oneshots book. I also hope, considering I wrote it over a year ago, that it wasn't too cringe. Right now I feel like it still holds up, but I'm sure by next year I'll probably hate it 🤣 anyway, there's one more from the Queen oneshots book that you may have already seen to come, so I hope you enjoy that too. I love you so much and see you on the flip side! ❤️
