Tara and Rhett's wedding was considered the biggest event of the year. Scarlett hated the man, but she loved her sister dearly and also wanted to be associated with wealth after the entire Old Guard was poverty-stricken, so she made sure to spread the word about the event's grandeur. While the entire city expected the event to be big, the richest man was marrying the prettiest belle, this alone caused gossip to arise. But the fact that Rhett's reputation was tarnished and he was marrying a woman of impeccable manners and reputation also raised the rumors.

People began to say that Rhett was the one who paid for Tara's (plantation) taxes under the condition of marrying the firstborn daughter to keep the property. Some meaner people said that Tara was expecting their firstborn in six months. Others would say that Tara wanted to choose the richest suitor she could find because she was hungry, she turned down more than seven suitors who asked for her hand before and they were perfectly respectable southern gentlemen who went to war, unlike Rhett whose reputation was tarnished even though he had enough money for himself and many future generations.

Scarlett and Mammy took it as their life mission to voice all of their bad opinions about Rhett every time Tara was near, their focus only changed when Scarlett showed clear signs of another pregnancy and Mammy wanted Scarlett to stop working in her mill while pregnant, it was scandalous to be out of the house while increasing, and even more unbecoming to be working like a man. Scarlett and Frank Kennedy currently resided with Aunt Pittypat, the dark-haired twin convinced her husband to live with the woman since the house belonged to Wade.

" Lord, you don't understand how much people despise you." Tara said to Rhett while he paid a call for her two days before their wedding, since tradition did not allow bride and groom to meet the day before the wedding.

She was residing with Aunt Pittypat but she managed to sneak Rhett in more often than she was willing to admit. Not because they had dubious reasons to meet, but because Aunt Pitty began to have her vapors whenever the man was around. Frank and Scarlett retired early and Scarlett's pregnancy made her a heavy sleeper while Frank's hearing was already failing.

" Miss Pittypat might despise me, but she makes me very happy with her absence. And they hate me because I am a successful villain, they wouldn't hate me as much if I was poor like they became." Rhett said with a grin as he sat beside Tara, " So many possibilities."

" We have to wait a while until we begin trying for babies." Tara said with a blush on her face.

" Are you in your courses?" Rhett asked unashamedly and Tara's face turned into a more violent shade of red before she moved away from him.

" Don't say it so bluntly. I am not, people are saying that in four months I'll be giving birth to your child, we should wait to have a child for at least a year past our wedding so that everyone knows we didn't do er- anything before marriage."

" Why wouldn't I talk about your courses, it will be my problem as much as yours since its absence means a child and its presence means no fun for me. Personally, I don't care to cease marital relations when the woman is on her-" Rhett said even more as he noticed how red she was, her face was matching her auburn hair.

Tara put her hand over his mouth to make him stop talking.

" You said no secrets between us." Rhett said with a grin, pulling her hand off his mouth and kissing it.

" You know too much about everything." Tara said as she looked around to see if anyone was watching so that she could steal a kiss.

" I know you more than I know anything."

She was standing up in front of him as their lips interlocked, not expecting Rhett to pull her on his lap. Tara yelped before she laughed out loud.

" Shh, it's unbecoming for a lady to laugh like this." Rhett mocked.
