i see you walking down the street, back turned with your hands tucked away in the shallow pockets of your leather jacket. your scent escapes the air around me, my lungs forget how to breathe the air i am left with. my heart seizes, body shaking, tears slowly creep into my vision. away with your heart, your ambitions, your future; i have no role. bitter attitude is beyond me; i hold back the harshness i would typically hand out, as my growth would be reduced to but a meager stump. i can't destroy these memories, as i usually would, i cherish the perspective i've gained. we had burned slowly and once again, in haste, i pulled out my lighter and engulfed us in flames. burn slow, love long. even though we've barely known each other, i wish i hadn't brought my lighter.
