"Niklaus" you called after him. You had caught him sneaking off behind the small pack of wolves into the forest. His fascination with them had become sort of an obsession, so much so he has begun to ignore you and leave you in the lurch, not knowing where he was. But you were used to it now, you knew he would be in the forest, waiting hand and foot on the wolves, serving his mother or fighting his father with the ultimate goal of defeating him.

Niklaus turned around to see your hand in the air waving him over.he quickly glanced back at the people who descended into the forest and back to you again, having a look on his face that only indicated his hesitation to either follow them in or greet you.

"Y/N" he said as he finally walked up to you, "are you okay?"

Were you okay? Was that seriously a question he was asking. Maybe you would be okay if he actually treated you with some respect and acknowledged you from time to time, but he didn't.

"I'm fine" you faked a smile "weren't we supposed to spend the day together?" You asked innocently with a tilted head.

In return, Niklaus rolled his lips and placed his arm around your shoulder, pulling you in to a small tight hug, he then kissed you on the cheek and said "regretfully I have already made plans" he checked back to the forest and measured how long it would take him to catch up with the rest "but I promise you I will visit you tomorrow"

You signed quietly and nodded your head, telling him to go and do whatever he wanted to do. Klaus smiled at you and then ran back in to the first after the last couple of straddlers.

As soon as he disappeared you felt as if someone had been watching you. You turned your head quickly and met Elijah's strong gaze.

He smiled at you and you smiled back, but you didn't feel like speaking right now, you were on the verge of tears and if you had one run in with someone or if someone asked if you were okay, you would break. So you quickly turned around and walked away, discreetly wiping tears from your cheek.

The night fell quickly and you decided that you had had enough of hiding inside, so you picked some candles up and pushed some clothes into a basket to take to the river to wash. It would clear your mind and give you some time to think.

You sat on the small grass bank and dipped one of your dresses under water, you scrubbed it and scrubbed it releasing all of your anger

"If you clean anymore there won't be a dress" Elijah's voice made you jump slightly but you instantly relaxed when you recognised him.

"Is it bad that I do not seem to care?" You asked in a monotone voice without turning around to look at home; but you knew that he had now sat beside you, only centimetres away. His warm hand grazed yours and stopped you from scrubbing and you quickly through the dress onto the free space beside you so you could hold your head in your hands.

"I believe you are caring about all of the wrong things" he replied glancing at the soaking dress that now probably had a hole in"what is it that has you this upset?"

"Niklaus has taken more of an interest in wolves than me" you shrugged "it is not that that has me so upset but it has contributed; Ever since I could understand feelings; I had dreamed of a future with somebody I loved and when I met Niklaus, I could see everything; how we would grow old and how many children we would have"

Elijah looked at the ground, unsure of what to say

"We would have had two" you laughed to yourself, imagining the life you wanted "little Jacob and Amelia but now... Now that Niklaus has lost interest in me, I can't really see anything"

"Maybe you should stick by him, this phase will soon fade and you will have the life you wanted, the life you deserve" he replied, always so noble.

"I want to, with all my heart but I feel ashamed to say that I'm beginning to see that future I wish for with someone else" you admitted, finally looking him in the eye.

She. You had moved to Mystic Falls, the first people you met were the Mikaelson family. You had met Niklaus first and then Elijah and then the rest. Though you found Niklaus attractive, Elijah intrigued you more and enticed you. You two would spend days out in the fields, just talking. But before you knew it Niklaus had lured you in to his arms and you and Elijah drifted further apart.

You two had exchanged smiles and small talk throughout the weeks; you felt bad because Elijah never knew the feelings you had and he would probably never know because you had always thought you and Niklaus would marry and grow old together. But you believed Elijah had been watching over these days and understanding the predicament Klaus had put you in, why else would he approach you alone?

You put your hand down on Elijah's hand, he flinched a little bit but relaxed under your gentle touch. He shook his head trying to say something but he couldn't.

"I know" you nodded "I know it is wrong but Niklaus was never my first choice; it was you, it was always going to be you"

Elijah raised his eyebrows, he knew what she was saying; he prayed for it every night but to hear the words out loud surprised him immensely

"From the moment we met to now, Elijah please tell me I'm insane" you shook your head, to think you were thinking of betraying Niklaus, it made you quiver. But you were betraying him for someone you knew would treat you right, you knew Elijah respected you, you knew he would love you and give you the life you wanted.

"I know you deserve so much better that what Niklaus can offer" Elijah was surprised with the words that came out of his mouth, to shoot his own brother down so quickly in order to win a girl over.

"What do you suggest we do?" You asked, not knowing to act on your feelings or ignore them Completely

"You understand that to betray my own brother will be difficult; I need to hear you say it" Elijah took your hand that still leant on his and ran his thumb along your knuckle which made you shiver and ignited feelings that you never thought were possible

"Elijah" you breathed and unlinked your hand to slowly caress his cheek. He raised his hand and rested it on your neck "I love you" you finally said it, after all this time and it felt good. You felt awful for Niklaus who was probably out in the woods following wolves and watching how they change, but you also felt like a massive weight has been lifted.

"I love you too" he replied almost instantly, pulling you in and pressing his soft lips against yours.

Flames ignited as you pulled him closer and closer until he could no longer move towards you. You had never felt a kiss so soft and so attentive as well as fiery and passionate. Your lips moulded perfectly into his and you took the time to just admire and remember how he tasted and now different it was to Niklaus. You usually tensed up when Nik would touch you because he never did, you would think it was forced. But with Elijah you could relax and enjoy the atmosphere.

You finally made the choice. You chose Elijah.
