                           The Memory Lane I

It was her first day as a 7th grader, Renée remembered that she sat in a corner waiting for her cousin and friend to show up while watching her new classmates greet her other classmates, obviously knowing each other already.

She sighed. 'What's taking them so long?' She thought as a nasty frown made its way to her face, she was unnoticable- she wanted to be unnoticable. Finding it horrible if people starts talking to her with her cousin and friend not with her.

Her nose scrunches as another thought came to her mind and before another thought pops up, something- Someone gently tapped her forehead as if asking for her attention. She looked up almost immediately, thinking it was her cousin and friend but to her disappointment it was not. She sighed, her disappointment showing.

"First day of school and someone's all grumpy. What made you frown like that?" A calming ,gentle and manly voice asked playfully, grinning ear-to-ear.

"Nothing... Just waiting for someone." She purposely kept her response short, not wanting a full-blown conversation with a random guy who decided it was a great idea to talk to her.

"Your friend? The one you're waiting for, I mean." He asked, taking a seat in front of her.

"Cousin and friend, but yes." Short and cold reply once again. She looked up, getting a better view of his face and up close she realized how good-looking he is, jet-black hair, mesmerizing dark brown eyes, naturally light-brown skin and charming teethy smile.

She looked away embarassedly, realizing that she was staring at him for too long. But hey! She can't blame herself. Afterall, he was attractive- very attractive, she wouldn't be surprised if all the girls in their class would fawn over him.

"Hello? You still there?" He asked, concerned. "You 'kay?" His hand waving in front of her to snap her out of her reverie.

Renée snaps out of her thoughts, apologizing embarassedly, 'well that was embarassing..' She thought. He chuckled at her before he brought out another topic.

"So what's your name? Mine's Gabriel but I prefer to be called by my middle name, Rendell." The boy in front of her explained.

"Oh, mine's Renèe, Renée Leonore Vanidestine. Nice name you got, Rendell! Where'd you get it?"

" From my parents," Rendell joked,
"I'm aware!" She replied, embarassed. She knew her wording was a bit wrong but she felt stupid thinking he would get what she meant.

"I'm just kidding! But I got it from my Mum, she named me after her older brother, except that the only similarity if our names are it's pronunciation," he shrugged.

And after that they started chatting. Renée found comfort with the way he talks, finding voice mellifluous and welcoming.

And that was where it all started...
