"Seatbelt Cariño," he said looking at me.I only folded my arms looking out the window. He muttered something under his breath before slowly pulling out of the restaurant and speeding off.
Silence prevailed in the car as no one dared to speak. I felt the car move a bit faster but I didn't mention it. He kept accelerating even more and I was now getting a bit tense. I looked at him and his eyes were glued to the road, his knuckles white as he tightened his grip on the steering wheel. He suddenly hit the brakes so hard that I flung onto the headboard.
I heard him sputter in laughter before he was full on laughing. I buckled up,angry and folded my arms glaring at him. Still his laughter didn't fade.
"It's not even that funny," I said as a matter of factly. "Trust me it is," he said in between laughs. "Just drive Reece. I don't want to stay here with you any longer."
The laughter almost immediately died down. "Don't say that." I glared at him,his eyes betraying his sadness. "What do you want me to say Reece? Oh today was so fun. It was until you decided to full on attack my childhood friend for absolutely no reason at all. What is wrong with you?!"
"The guy was fucking flirting with you!" he shouted. "No he wasn't," I scoffed. "Yes he was," he said. "So what if he was? Huh? Don't you think I deserve to move on after all you put me through Reece Caxton?!" "Munchy please...." "Don't call me that Reece. Please," I said a tear slowly falling from my eye. He moved to wipe it but I beat him to it as he slowly lowered his hand. "Take me home," I said, looking back out the window.
The rest of the drive was filled with so much tension. I could tell he wanted to say something but I didn't want to hear it. The second he pulled up in front of my house,I unbuckled my seatbelt. "Thank you for the nice date," I said. Before I even got out,I felt his hand on my wrist. I looked at his hand and then at him. "Wait please," he urged.I looked at him, silently telling him to go on.
"I'm sorry okay?" he said running a hand through his hair. I raised my eyebrow and he took it as a sign to continue. "I'm sorry I ruined our dinner by fucking up that guy, even though he clearly deserved it and..."
"Woow. Really?" I laughed,"What a great apology Reece." I got out and walked to my house. I could feel his stare on my back but I didn't dare look back. I got in expecting Gabe to come running at me,completely forgeting that he was with Tenil. "Damn it." I said under my breath.
I went up to my room, quickly changed into my blue silk pjs and sitting on my bed to read a novel. Barely a minute passed when I heard a soft thud on my window. I put my book down after placing my bookmark and walked to the window. I couldn't see anything in the pitch black darkness so I opened the window and stuck my head out to investigate. I felt a sharp pain on my forehead before a small pebble fell down.
"Shit," I heard. I looked down and saw Reece standing there with a few pebbles in his hand. "Seriously Reece?! Throwing rocks on my window!? Does this look like Hallmark?" I asked rubbing the spot on my forehead.
"You weren't answering my texts," he said shrugging. "There's this thing called knocking?" I said raising my eyebrow. "Oh yeah right," he said letting the pebbles fall on the ground.
"What do you want?" I asked now laughing. "I want to apologise." "Hmm this should be good," I said shaking my head. "I'm serious Jade." The way he said my name made me feel something I definitely shouldn't. "Alright say less," I said waiting for him to go on.
"Look I know I was dumb to act like that and..." "You sure were," I said. "Hey I'm trying to apologise here." I put my hands up as he continued. "Anyways I'm sorry for acting like that. I know it was wrong especially in front of you. You guys were just talking and my anger got the best of me,Mun...Jade. I'm sorry."
"Hmmm you've definitely improved," I said. "But for real though, the guy was flirting with you," he said chuckling. "Even if he was,I see no problem there," I said shrugging. "But I was with you," he stated. "So? It was just a dinner." "Yeah but he didn't know that." "So?" I asked now annoyed. "So we could have been on a date when he was flirting with you," he said. "But we weren't." "What if we were?" he asked. "But we weren't." "But what if we were?" "Reece go home. Jeez," I said now clearly annoyed. "Wait, have you forgiven me?"he asked genuinely. I looked at him raising my eyebrow before closing the window and going back to bed.
After a few minutes I heard the pitter patter of rain. My mind immediately thought of Reece. Did he make it home before the rain? Before I even knew it I was on my feet, back to the window. That's when I saw his car there. What is he still doing here? What is wrong with this guy? He must be cold. I stared at his car thinking about his state for a while. What am I even thinking about? He should have gone home. He's not my problem.
I pushed any thoughts of him to the back of my mind and went back to my book. The rain only intensified. Without any further thought,I took my umbrella and went downstairs before walking outside. His car was still there and I could make out his silhouette. I walked over to his car and knocked on the driver's side window. He opened the window and I gestured for him to come with me. He got out, locked the car and got under the umbrella with me. We slowly walked back inside.
Once inside I could now see him clearly. His hair got a bit wet as well as his back. " I'll start up the fireplace. Et cozy,"I told him leading him to the living room. I got to work and after a few minutes the house was already warm. He sat confidently on my favourite seat making me glare at him for a bit before heading to my bedroom to get my book. Coming back down I saw him seated on a different seat. I raised my eyebrow to which he answered,"I noticed your glare." I laughed and sat on my seat.
I threw the tv remote at him and showed him my book silently telling him to keep it down. He nodded and as I predicted he put on soccer. I shook my head smiling. "Still a City fan?" he asked and I just nodded making him genuinely smile. I read my book for a while before I heard him loudly cuss at the t.v. I raised my eyebrow and he quickly apologised.
He was so concentrated on the game. He looked actually stressed about the game. His hair had now dried a bit and some of it lay on his forehead. His pink lips were in a line as he intently watched the game. His emerald green eyes followed the ball. His elbows rested on his knees and he had folded his suit above his elbows.
His suit..wait suit? I just now realised he was still in his suit. I went upstairs to my closet and pulled out a pair of grey sweatpants and a shirt that was a bit too big for me. I went back downstairs and threw them onto his lap startling him. I chuckled saying,"to change." "Oh thanks." He looked at the clothes and that's when I realised he was staring at the sweatpants and I knew why. "You kept these?" he asked lifting it. I felt my face heat up so I just nodded. I saw his lip slightly curve into a smile. "Since college?" he asked now clearly amused. "Let me show you where you'll change," I said pulling him upstairs. He had left those specific sweatpants in my dorm room in college and I kept them since.
He chuckled as I walked him into the guestroom. "There's a new toothbrush and toothpaste in the cabinet on top of the sink," I explained as I handed him a clean towel. "Goodnight Reece," I said now looking at him before quickly turning to head to my room.
I was quickly spun back around. His face was inches from mine. Our chests were practically touching at this point. His eyes stared right into my soul before moving to my lips which I instinctively licked making his grip on me tighter. Our foreheads touched and his arm moved to slightly touch my cheek. I wanted to feel his lips on mine again after so long. I craved his touch making me move a bit closer to him.We both wanted it for sure but were scared to make the first step. A sudden thunder sound brought me back to my senses. He put his hand down from my cheek visibly annoyed at the storm outside. "Goodnight Jade."
