Feyre's daughter clutched her hand in hers while she slept, her lips pursed delicately, her eyes moving behind her eyelids as she dreamt. She was so precious, and despite the fact that her daughter was Rhysand's, she loved her all the same.
After she had given birth and her daughter had been cleaned up, Feyre had started thinking of names. She did not want to ask either Tamlin or Rhysand - mostly because she knew that if she asked Rhysand's opinion, it would only hurt Tam more. And she knew that if she asked Tamlin, he would not want to name her daughter, if only because she was not his. Tamlin had not come to see her in a few days, though he had sent Lucien on his behalf to see how she was. Feyre knew he was avoiding her, but she was glad that Lucien wasn't avoiding her.
"What did you name her?" Lucien asked from the door. She hadn't heard him come in, but she was glad that he was there now. She hadn't told anyone but Alis what the child's name was. Perhaps Lucien would pass it on, tell both Tamlin and Rhysand what her daughter's name would be. She grinned, glancing back down at her daughter and kissing her forehead.
"Dahlia." Feyre said, a whisper too quiet for Lucien to hear at first. He came closer, poised at the edge of her bed so that he could hear her now. She sighed, "Her name is Dahlia."
He didn't comment on that, but he did ask her how she was feeling now. She shrugged, just as one of the faerie servants came in to check if she needed anything. She waved them away with a slight smile and the door closed soundly behind the servant. Feyre exhaled, offering Lucien to sit in the chair beside the bed. He took her offer wordlessly and waited for her to answer his question. She wondered if he was mad at her, too.
"I think I'm just in shock, really." Feyre confessed, shifting Dahlia from one arm to another. When she looked up at Lucien, he seemed to be staring at her daughter. Her brows furrowed and she extended her arms in his direction, so that he might be able to take her, "Do you want to hold her?"
The expression that flashed across his face made her laugh, but after a moment, he did take Dahlia in his arms, so very careful as he cradled her. His metal eye whirred as he did so, looking down at the small precious bundle now in his care. Feyre watched him carefully, making sure that he held her correctly. Though, if she was being honest, she didn't really know how to hold Dahlia correctly, either.
"Did you know?" Lucien asked her after a bout of silence in the room. She didn't have to ask him to clarify his question, for she knew that he was talking about whether or not she knew her daughter had been Rhysand's before she had given birth.
She shrugged, "I had a feeling. I should have told both of them beforehand, but I was afraid by how they would react." she let her head fall into her hands, "How is Tamlin?" though she didn't want to know the full details of how he was dealing with this news, she needed to know, or else she was going to go crazy.
Lucien shrugged, though the gesture was delayed and slow as he was still staring at her child in his arms. Dahlia was still sleeping though, her face so absolutely peaceful despite everything going on around her.
"Fine. He hasn't spoken to anyone in the last two days, other than me. Rhys kind of just stalks the garden every now and again. He knows he isn't welcome here, but he isn't going anywhere." she hadn't asked about Rhysand, but she was glad that Lucien had been able to see deeper into her question. Both of them sighed at the same time, which made her smile for half a second before Lucien asked, "Did he...Did Rhys do anything to you?"
Her head shot up at his question, "What?"
Lucien became angry then, his voice still a whisper though she could hear the harsh tones in it, "Did he force himself on you? Is that why..." Lucien glanced down at Dahlia. His face softened from the angry expression he had been wearing a moment ago. He could not be angry with a child, even if it was Rhysand's.
"No. No, Lucien." she shook her head violently, "I...when this happened, I was the one to force myself on him." I don't know what's wrong with me, she wanted to say, but could not find her voice. The night it had happened, she had not felt like herself. Almost like someone else was controlling her body, making her feel the things she did for Rhysand. She knew it had not been his doing, she was familiar with his magic. It hadn't even really felt like magic at all, more like half of her heart belonged to Rhys, while the other belonged to Tamlin.
Lucien nodded beside her, standing and handing Dahlia back to her after a moment's hesitation.
"I'll see you later." he didn't explain why he was leaving, though she could understand why he would want to. Tamlin was his best friend and Lucien probably didn't want to hear about that night.
She didn't have anyone to talk to now.
