Celeste's POV
They say the sea is the most mysterious place in all the world, and I never believed them...until something happened to me...something extremely rare, and I was never the same. Hi, I'm Celeste; I'm seventeen, I go to North Valley High in Atlanta, I have shoulder length blonde hair and sea blue eyes, and I'm the only child of Ariel Nyle (weirdly she was named after Princess Ariel)...or so I thought. "Mom, where's my book?" I yelled. "It's on the end table beside the couch!" she yelled back. We were packing for a trip on our home away from home, the Celestial Cruiser...yes my mom named me after her boat, weird right? We live in a trailer right on the peer, so we normally dock our boat right around us. "Ready Celeste?" my mom asked. "Yeah, I'm ready!" I smiled. We boarded the boat and were off to relax in a matter of minutes. I was reading this really good book about mermaids, it was the first one in the trilogy...and yes I am a reader, I've always loved to read. "Wow!" I whispered. "What is it sweetie?" my mom asked. "Nothing, this book is just incredible! I wonder if something like this could happen in real life!" I said. "Maybe so" my mom laughed. "Funny, so very funny!" I said smiling. What's even weirder about me is the fact that I've never been in the ocean, not even as a child. My mom says it's because I'm allergic to salt water, but I'm not so sure.

That night, as my mom was sleeping, I was reading the part in the book where the normal girl finds out she has a twin sister who's a mermaid. "Wouldn't that be so epic, to find out that you have a twin sister living beneath you!" I said to myself. Then my necklace starts to glow, I didn't know it did that so I began to think it's just moonlight reflecting off of it. I waited a few minutes to see if it would stop, then I go into the boathouse and I realize that it's actually glowing. "What the heck is happening?!" I whisper to myself, freaked out. I run into my moms room, and wake her up. "What is happening with my necklace?" I ask her. "What do you..." she froze, her mouth dropped. "Mom, what is it?" I ask. "Honey it's nothing, probably just your imagination...were you reading that book when you noticed it?" she said, starring at it, like she knew why it was glowing. I nodded. "Okay then that explains it, just stop reading for a bit, alright?" she instructed. "Fine!" I rolled my eyes. "Good, now goodnight!" she said rolling back over. "Night!" I said walking out. I had this weird feeling, like my mom knew exactly why my necklace was glowing and why I was "allergic" to salt water. "Just let it go Celeste, she said she didn't know and you trust that woman more than anything, so just let it go!" I told myself, taking a deep breath.

Ariel's POV

After seeing my daughter's necklace glow, like literally glow, I used the shell Kevin, my husband, gave me when we split the girls apart. I never used it before, but I had written down the instructions when he told them to me. I whispered my husband's name then put it to my ear. "Ariel, what's wrong?" he asked frantic. "Remember that necklace you gave Celeste when she was a baby?" I asked him. "Yeah, the mermaids holding hands...why?" he said. "It glows." I said. "Oh yeah, forgot...when a set of half mermaid half human twins are born and the parents decide to split them apart, each one gets a necklace to remind them that the sea is their home just as much as land is." he said. "Yeah, I already knew that, you told me." I said. "But..." he said, knowing that I would freak. "Here we go again." I sighed. "But, when they're about to turn eighteen, the necklaces glow...letting them know something, depending on which color it glows. Which color did hers glow?" he continued. "Pink!" I said. "That's the twin sister color!" he sighed. "Dad, my necklace, it's glowing...and it's pink!" I heard my other daughter, Daphne, say. "Give me a minute sweetie, I'm on the phone!" he said to her. "Which island are you near?" I asked him. "Uh, the one I would always meet you at when we were their age!" he said. I could tell he was smiling. "I'll meet you there, and bring Daphne!" I said smiling. "Alright, love you, bye!" he said. "Love you too, bye!" I said. I put down the shell and walked out to Celeste, who had fallen asleep reading. She looked so peaceful. I sat out there for a while, watching her sleep. "You're about to get the biggest shock of your life!" I whispered. "And I'm sorry if you hate me for keeping it from you!" I continued.
