The university day followed its usual rhythm. Freshmen reveled in the awe of their first college experiences, while seniors grappled with assignments and preparations for forthcoming events. Meanwhile, the two young men continued to inhabit their separate worlds. One found himself fully engaged in a demanding baseball tournament, while the other had grown more familiar with his newfound companion.
As daylight waned, casting a subtle gleam of darkness across the sky, a chill descended upon the city. "Kook, where do you live? Need a lift?" A soft voice echoed through the now desolate hallway.
"No need, Jimin," replied the striking young man with a soft, soothing voice. "I'll manage. I'll catch the bus."
"Alright, see you tomorrow," Jimin acknowledged. "And don't forget to send me a message once you've recharged your phone."
"Sure, Jimin," Kook assured him. "I'll do it once my phone's ready." Their paths diverged, Jimin heading for the university parking lot, while Kook ventured toward the main gate. Unnerved by the encroaching darkness, he hastened his steps.
Walking through a dimly lit alley adjacent to the university's main gate, Kook's curiosity led him toward the source of muffled voices. What he witnessed, though, was beyond anything he could have imagined. Several men, shrouded in black attire with masked faces, brandished guns pointed menacingly at a bloodied figure sprawled on the ground.
A menacing voice, deep with rage, bellowed, "Who are you working for? You were about to expose me today. Now you'll pay with your life, as I cannot leave a trace behind that would jeopardize my cover."
The man rose from his crouched position, reaching for a firearm held by one of his henchmen. However, his attention was suddenly seized by the presence of a lurking figure hiding behind a dumpster. To Kook's sheer terror, the man locked eyes with him; it was none other than the boy he had collided with that morning.
Words failed to capture the extent of Kook's fright at that moment. Simultaneously, the man had already identified Kook's face when he attempted to hide behind the dumpster. He hastily signalled one of his men to capture the hidden boy, but before they could reach him, Kook bolted.
"Tae, go after the boy," suggested one of the men, stepping forward from the group. Consumed by anger, the man loaded his gun and instructed his henchmen to accompany him in pursuit. He had no intention of harming the boy but realized that leaving him alone was dangerous. He faced a grim choice: capture the boy or eliminate him. Succumbing to the surge of rage, he sought to overpower the boy, consumed by the urgency of the situation. The shadow of a sinister conspiracy had descended upon their lives, shattering the illusions of a seemingly normal day.
