Why The Twins?

After her phone call with Matthew, Alyse immediately added the twins to her suspect list. Question is, why would Shawna and Tiffany kill Kayla? The scene would make sense in a way. If one twin was at the bottom of the cliff and the other was on top, the one on top could have pushed Kayla, then the other slit her throat. But why? Alyse was pondering it for a moment, all while pacing in her room. After Alyse remembered, she started to type it up on her laptop.

FLASHBACK

It was just last month that Alyse witnessed the twins getting berated in front of her. Kayla was always a straight A student, and from what Alyse heard, the twins could be doing better. "Girls, if your sister can get high grades, then you can too." Aurora says. "Kayla this, Kayla that! We're our own people too, Ma!" Shawna yells. Shawna was always the loud one. If one of the twins was yelling, guess who it was. Tiffany had more sarcasm than volume. "If Kayla is so great, why does she still live at home?" Tiffany adds.

Alyse sat there silently next to Kayla. They looked at each other awkwardly. "Well, aren't you going to say something?" The twins yell in unison to Kayla, who had a blank look. She knew better than to give in to her sisters' attitudes, much like Alyse did with Kali. The twins got frustrated and walked away, but not before uttering the words, "I can't wait until Kayla's gone."

PRESENT

It was clearly Tiffany who said it. Even though Alyse knew that Tiffany meant when Kayla moves out, it sure sounded like it could be the motive for murder. If Tiffany is going to resolute on Kayla being gone, then what would Shawna's role be? The cover up? Did she push Kayla? It was too late now, but Alyse decided that tomorrow after school lets out, she was going to make a trip to Kayla's house.

Alyse had to finish her research for an essay before she went to bed, so she sat on her computer for a few more hours. Blair knocked on Alyse's door before going to bed. She was startled, but realized that it was almost midnight. Alyse opened the door. "Sorry Mom, I'll go to bed now." Blair put her hand up. "That's not why I came up here. I was just checking on you to see if you were alright."

Alyse was puzzled. "Yeah, why?" Blair took a deep breath. "You haven't been the same since Kayla..." Alyse raised her eyebrows at her mother. "Since the incident." Alyse then folded her arms. "Let's see Mom, my best friend is dead, I just found out that it was a homicide, no one has the answers and I'm also trying to live life." Alyse got a glimpse of Kali peeking out her bedroom door across the hall. "Go back to bed, Kali." Blair says, knowing that Kali was listening. "Alyse, I'm just worried that you're getting a little too involved in something that the police will handle. It's not like you to go poking around in someone else's business."

"I know, but she's my best friend. The cops take forever to get involved in stuff like this around here! Maybe I can give them a lead." Blair shook her head. "No. You are putting yourself in danger. I want you to go to bed now." Blair started walking away. "I'm not a child!" Alyse says before closing her door. Blair paused in the hallway while on her way to her room. She wanted to cry, but knew she shouldn't.

That night, Alyse's dream of Kayla falling off the cliff got a little more clear. She saw Kayla land on a ledge, then fall off another one. Just like last time, Alyse woke up immediately, right as her alarm was going off. It was snowing outside, but luckily, Alyse only had online classes today. She went downstairs to get something to eat, then came back upstairs to her room. She logged onto her online class, and waited. This was her science class that was going to run for about one or two hours. She would then have her math lab class, then she would do homework while her parents were at work and Kali was at school.

Alyse could barely pay attention to her lecture video. Everyone would then be expected to email the professor about three things they learned from the video. She kept thinking about her suspect list and what the twins might have to do with Kayla, if anything. The video ended after half an hour. Alyse was supposed to email her teacher three things she learned, but nothing she didn't already know. She decided to come back to it later. For now, she decided that she'd login to her math lab class. She had another video to watch, then an assignment to complete. After, she'd have a quiz.
