The dark side

Chapter 1- the dead planet

"Duck!" I shout at James, as we fall to the ground merely dodging a huge claw. I look up and see the tall shadow of a dread bear. It looks around 10 foot tall but I can't be sure the only thing I'm thinking of is escaping. Next thing I know James takes my arm and bolts. Hardly keeping my balance I trail behind him. As I gained proper balance I catch up to him. I can hear the dread bear coming at us as trees fall and branches break. "We need to get to the safe house! " I exclaim. "It shouldn't be too far from us we just got to keep sprinting as fast as we can!" He shouts back. I can see it from where we are but I can also hear the dread bear close behind. We make it to the safe house and climb up as quick as we can only just dodging the bear. "
"I hope lily and Nathan are ok." I say running out of breath. "They'll be fine, you'll see."
After an hour of waiting I looked around and I could see two figures running at us in the distance. I focus very carefully on hair, night and features... YES! It's them they're safe, or are they... Why are they running anyway. I look around the area in which they are running in a state of panic. I freeze as I found it, the horrifying beast that they're running from. Far worse then the dread bear... I can't explain what it is I've never seen anything like it before, but it's huge and has monstrous jaws gouging open waiting to catch my friends in between them. It's claws like blades sawing anything that gets in its way and eyes like a demon. "Run!" I scream at the top of my lungs. "Whats wrong?!" James looks at me shocked.
"No time to explain. Give me the cross bow!"
"Alright" he picks up the cross bow and quickly passes it to me. He stands by my side and sees what I see.
"Shit! What the heck is that!" He turns and picks up a second cross bow and aims. We both aim carefully and fire arrow after arrow but none seem to be hurting it. "Keep firing!" I tell him as I turn around and get some oil and matched I get an arrow ready.
"What are you doing?!"
"We need to get that thing away from them! Keep shooting!"
"Fine! Give me the oil." He puts his hand out.
"Here." I pass the oil and matches as I've already got a flaming arrow ready.
I aim carefully and fire off the arrow. It's a direct hit and this time it had an an effect on the beast. James shoots off his arrow and that's done it. The beast turns around and leaves.
As lily and Nathan tell us what happen I finish making food for everyone.
Nathan, lily, James and I have been stuck in the dread lands for 2 weeks now after and incident happened where a dread animal managed to cross to the life lands we were sent to bring it back but we got lost in the attempt to do so. The trees and plants always look dark and dead and a lot are poisonous, we've even herd that some can move on their own and capture people. There are animals, well what used to be animals, they are dangerous but not like our wild animals. We've been attacked by a lot of different beasts but nothing like what we saw just then.
This whole place is gloomy and dark all the time. I mean if it's already dark during the day imagine how bad it gets at night.
We've survived quite well so far because we know what's edible and what's not and so forth. But what I'm worried about is... How long can we survive.
