Sophie Haines always hated her family and with good reason. Her dad was an acholic and wasn't very fun to be around when he was drunk, and her mom was a druggie, and they barely had enough money to raise her. Luckily, she didn't have any siblings so as soon as she turned 18, she got out of that hell hole.
She had been working since she was 14 so she had enough money for a decent car and a shitty house and that's when she met Micheal and Abby. They lived not too far from each other, and Sophie agreed to watch Abby when she had the time since her hours were random at the library.
Today was her only day off but since she made a deal with Mike, she had to babysit Abby while he went to the career center. Babysitting wasn't that hard it just got boring sometimes especially with a kid so silent. Sophie sat on the couch watching TV while Abby was in her room refusing to eat and Sophie got tired of arguing with a ten-year-old and her imaginary friend, so she gave up.
She was sitting on the couch watching TV when Micheal walked in looking exhausted while reading the eviction notice paper that was left on his front door "Hey Sophs thanks for babysitting for Abby again," He ruffles her hair before putting the paper down and taking off his jacket. She never really liked the nickname he gave her, or the fact that he ruffles her hair, but she thinks it's cute the way he shows his gratitude.
"No problem" she said while moving her eyes to him and fixing her hair "By the way I made some sliders they should still be warm if you want some." She stands up and walks over to grab her coat off the rack, but Micheal stops her by crossing his arms and leaning on the wall Infront of her "Before you leave, I have two questions," she crosses her arms and looks up at the tall dark-haired man "First, has Abby eaten?" She sighs "I tried everything, but she kept arguing and I just gave up" He hums in dissatisfaction "Second have you eaten yet?" the girl looks down then back up fast "Yeah I have," He looks mad "Wrong," how'd he know she didn't eat "Wha- how'd you know?" she asked with her jaw open and wide eyes. He giggles at how cute she looks "When you lie you look down at the floor," she sits there in shock not knowing what to say "I'm gonna go get Abby and we're all gonna eat together so go sit,"

There all sitting at the table eating the sliders "Here," Abby hands Sophie a drawing "I made it for you," on the paper it's a drawing of Abby and Sophie at the park on the playground. "Thanks Abs," Sophie said with a big smile on her face. Sophie always loved it when Abby drew her in her drawings it always made her feel loved.
"So how'd it go?" Sophie asked while putting the picture in her toat bag. "Oh uh not so well," Mike paused for a minute then continued, "He said there's a job for security but I'd have to work nights," it seemed like Abby wasn't listening to the conversation like she was in her own world drawing something else now "Oh damn that sucks," she sound of the crayon scraping across the paper stopped "Maybe Sophie could stay at our house while you work or I could stay at hers?" Abby suggested. Mike blurted out almost immediately "Nope," Abby pouted "She may have a point, Mike and I don't mind her or me sleeping over," he sighed "I'll think about it," Sophie and Abby both looked at each other smiling like they just got done doing something evil.
They got done eating and put Abby to bed and it was now 7:36 PM and was dark out "I'm gonna start heading home now since I have to be at the library at 6," Sophie said on the way to grab her coat. "Let me walk you out since this isn't the best neighborhood to be outside at night," Mike said "Thanks Michael," she almost never said his full first name so this took him aback for a second "No problem Sophie," he said chuckling. They walked out to her car and when they said goodbye Michael kissed her on the cheek. Instantly blush rose to her face and she felt tingles. He's never done this before why now what could've possibly happened for him to do this? "You good Sophs?" she realized she'd been standing still for almost 30 seconds "Ya I'm fine," she sat down in her car "Bye Mike," "Bye Sophs," and with that, she left.
When she got home all she could think about was the kiss on the cheek. Even in the shower, all she could think of was him and his big arms and his toned body with his stubble beard. OMG WHAT IS SHE TALKING ABOUT? She can't think this she babysits his sister for crying out loud. They could never be anything more than friends anyway. Or can they?
