I woke up to Cielle standing over my bed. She had that signature grin on her face, and I could tell she was up to something.
"What do you want?" I ask, turning over in bed.
"There's a meeting. You have to come." She pulled on my arm.
I groaned. "Why?" I pulled away from her. She pulled the covers off me.
"Get up! Come on, Maggie!" She didn't even give me a choice, much less an answer. I rolled my eyes and sat up with a sigh. "Okay, okay. I'm up." I slipped out of bed and grabbed the dress I had picked out yesterday. Louise was already dressed in a black dress that fell below her knees.
"You look great, Louise," I say, almost in awe of my younger sister. She was looking in the mirror, fighting her long, blonde hair.
"Thanks." She smiled at me and continued to battle her hair. We then went to the meeting.
...
As Louise and Cielle went to join us, Davian and his attractive blonde friend soon followed. They took their seats behind us, and Davian gave me a cheeky grin. Indie then cleared her throat to address the group. "Hello, everyone. It's true that we have some recruits amongst us," she announced. Davian's friend then raised his hand to speak. "Yes, Dominic?" Indie asked in a calm manner.
Dominic seemed to speak with some sarcasm, saying, "What about the initiation? Are you simply going to enlist them into action right away?"
Indie appeared to get quite frustrated with Dominic's response. "Well, they're my daughters, and your father just threw me into action without warning," she replied with a slyly confident tone.
Dominic then stood to his feet. "But what if they blow our cover?" Dominic asked quite arrogantly. I then stood up too.
"I'll have you know that we're not little children," I stated firmly. "Who says we'll give you away if we're smart?" Davian placed his hand on Dominic to calm him down. Indie then smiled.
"Okay, if you're so worried about it, then why don't you and Davian spend the afternoon training them?" she asked smugly.
Dominic let out a frustrated sigh as he looked at Davian. "Whatever," he mumbled. Davian smiled at me once more.
"Meeting adjourned." Indie then dismissed everyone.
After it was over, I went back out to the balcony where Davian had taken me the night before. After a moment of sitting and staring out into the woods, he appeared through the glass door. He stopped in his tracks when he spotted me.
"Surprised to see me?" I ask, grinning at him. He chuckled and sat beside me.
"No, actually I was expecting you to be out here."
"Were you, now?" He gives me a grin.
"Yes, and might I say, you did surprise me earlier. No one stands up to Dominic. Not even your mom." I looked at him with a puzzled expression.
"And why is that?" I ask. He shuffles his feet, and I can tell he's a bit uncomfortable.
"Dominic's father runs this place." I nod, narrowing my eyes.
"So, he's the boss, of like... everyone here?" Davian nods.
"Yep, and he's pretty terrifying too." I smile at the ground.
"Poor thing, you must be so scared." I said it with sarcasm lacing my tone. He fiddled with the strings of his shirt.
"Well, why are you moping around out here?" He murmured, changing the subject quickly. I stand up, leaning over the balcony.
